The Sudan Nettes’ varsity softball team cruised past Hale Center on Tuesday to take their first meeting of district play, 15-5.
With the win, the Nettes improve to 12-8-1 overall, 3-1 in district play.
Dani Mitchell pitched a complete game, throwing five innings, giving up seven hits, three walks and five runs, three earned, while earning four strikeouts.
Hale Center struck first in the top of the first inning, but Sudan responded in the home half, with three runs, making the score, 3-1, going to the second frame. Hale Center would add two runs in the top of the second to tie the game, but it was short- lived, as the Nettes plated four runs in the bottom of the second, making the score, 7-3.
The score stood until the fourth inning, when both teams scratched two runs across to make the score, 9-5, heading into the fifth inning. Sudan shutout Hale Center in the top of the fifth, before pushing six runs across to walk off with a, 15-5, run-rule victory.
The Nettes tallied 12 hits and 11 walks as a team, led by Scarlett Pool, who had three triples, a walk and two RBI’s. Dani Ramirez tallied two hits and a walk, while Piper Pool added a double, one walk and three RBI’s.
Reyna Limon added three hits and an RBI, while Kynleigh Green chipped in a hit and two walks, and Andrea Williams drew three walks. Mitchell drew two walks, while Kyndal Wilson added a hit and a walk, and Danalei Kelley finished with a hit and an RBI.
The Nettes were at Hale Center on Saturday for their second meeting of district play. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season on Tuesday on the road against Abernathy.
First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
