The Olton Mustangs’ varsity basketball team won a thriller over New Deal in double overtime on Friday, 67-66.
With the win, the Mustangs improve to 3-0 in district play on the season.
New Deal clung to an, 8-7, lead after the opening quarter, but they pulled away in the second frame, outscoring Olton, 14-8, to take a, 22-15 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Olton poured in 14 points in the third quarter to trim the lead to, 38-29, heading into the final frame, and in the fourth quarter, the Mustangs outscored the Lions, 24-15, to tie the game, 53-53, to force overtime.
The Mustangs outscored the Lions, 15-13 in the extra periods to take the contest, 67-66.
The Mustangs were led by Brennon Huguley, who netted 28 points, and he was joined in double-figures scoring by Jake Soliz who tallied 14 points and Andrew Martinez, who finished with 12 points. Nathan Urbina chipped in eight points, while Jimmy Munoz contributed four points and Alan Vasquez contributed one point in the contest.
The Mustangs were at Lockney on Tuesday. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season on Friday with a home game against Floydada.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7:45 p.m.
