Mustangs throttle Hornets in first district meeting, 69-39

The Olton Mustangs jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, as they took down the Sudan Hornets, 69-39, in their first meeting of district play.

With the win, the Mustangs improve to 2-0 in district play, while the Hornets fall to 1-1 in district play.

Olton outscored the Hornets, 19-11, in the opening frame, before erupting for 22 points in the second quarter to take a, 41-20, lead into the locker room at halftime.

Olton outscored Sudan, 19-9, in the third quarter, making the score, 60-29, going into the final quarter of play. In the fourth quarter, Sudan outscored Olton, 10-9, but they could not overcome the early deficit, as the Mustangs took the contest, 69-39.

The Mustangs were led by Sebastian Sparkman, who tallied 16 points, eight assists, six rebounds and three steals, while Brady Azam contributed 15 points, five rebounds and one assist, and Zayden Falcon chipped in 14 points, two steals and one rebound.

Alex Green tallied nine points, two rebounds, two assists and one steal, while Matt Flores contributed eight points, four steals, one assist and one rebound, and Wyatt Francis added three points, two steals, and one rebound. Manny Carrasco chipped in two points, two rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block, while Chris Cabrera added two points two assists, one steal and one rebound.

The Hornets were led by Aspen Reyher, who tallied 12 points, two assists, two rebounds, one steal and one block. Kyler Edwards chipped in eight points and five rebounds, while Dylan Provence added six points and one assist, and Brian Delgado contributed six points, four rebounds, three assists and two blocks.

Kye Polk added four points, six rebounds and one block, while Christian Delgado finished with three points, two assists and one rebound.

The Mustangs hosted Farwell on Thursday, while the Hornets took on Bovina. Results were not available at press time. They will continue district play on Tuesday, as Sudan goes on the road to take on Lockney, and Olton hosts Bovina.

Both tip-offs are slated for 7:30 p.m.
