Mustangs throttle Dimmitt, 99-43, for fourth straight win

The Olton Mustangs’ varsity basketball team stayed perfect on the year, taking down Dimmitt at home, 99-43.

With the win, the Mustangs improved to 4-0 overall on the year. Olton erupted in the first quarter, outscoring Dimmitt, 30-4. Dimmitt would bounce back in the second frame with19 points, as Olton took a, 48-23, lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Mustangs would pour in 36 points in the third quarter to stretch their lead to, 84-33, and in the fourth quarter, they outscored the Bobcats, 15-10, to take the contest, 99-43.

Johnathan Cooper led the way for the Mustangs, pouring in 33 points, to go along with nine rebounds, four assists and one steal. Brady Azam joined him in doublefigures scoring with 18 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and two steals, while Zayden Falcon tallied 18 points, four rebounds, one assist and one steal.

Sebastian Sparkman chipped in eight points, 12 assists, seven steals and four rebounds, while Alan Vasquez contributed seven points, three rebounds and one steal, and Santi Jimenez added seven points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals. Matias Flores tallied six points and four assists, while Wyatt Nelson finished with two points, five rebounds, one assist and one steal. The Mustangs were at Vega on Tuesday to take on the Longhorns. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season on Thursday when they begin play at the Nazareth Tournament. Games times are TBA.
