The Olton Mustang’s varsity basketball team took down the
Vega Longhorns on Thursday, 79-54, opening district play with a victory.
With the win, the Mustangs improve to 20-3 overall, 1-0 in district play.
Olton jumped out to a big lead in the first quarter, 23-6, and they outscored the Longhorns, 19-13, in the second frame to take a, 42-19, lead into the locker room at halftime.
Vega would pour in 21 points in the third quarter to cut the lead to, 59-40, but in the final frame, Olton slammed the door, pouring in 20 points to take the contest, 79-54.
Jake Soliz led the team in scoring with 15 points, and was joined in double-figures scoring by
Brennon Huguley, who netted 14 points and Andrew Martinez, who poured in 12 points.
Joe Canchola tallied eight points, while Nick Casares, Alex Santillan and Chris Urbina each added seven points and Nathan Urbina finished with five points. Jimmy Munoz also tallied four points in the contest.
