Mustangs fall to Abernathy in district-opener, 12-2

The Olton Mustangs’ varsity baseball team dropped their district-opener on Saturday, falling to Abernathy 12-2.

With the win, the Mustangs fall to 0-1 in district play.

Paytn Jimenez started on the bump for the Mustangs, pitching two innings, giving up nine hits, two walks and nine runs, seven earned, while earning three strikeouts. Dax Light pitched three innings, giving up three hits, four walks and three runs, two earned, while earning four strikeouts.

Abernathy jumped out in front early with two runs in the top of the first inning, but the Mustangs scratched two runs across in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game, 2-2. The Antelopes, though, would answer with four runs in the top of the second and five runs in the top of the third to take an, 11-2, lead.

Abernathy would add one run in the top of the fifth to run rule the Mustangs, 122.

At the plate, the Mustangs had just one hit as a team, but earned seven walks, led by Colby Burns, who tallied one hit and one Walk. Callen Burns, Jett Tomsu and Paytn Jimenez each earned two walks.

The Mustangs were at Ralls on Tuesday for their first meeting with the Jackrabbits. Results were not available at press time. They will wrap up their season series with the Jackrabbits on Saturday with a home game.

First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
