Week seven of the Lamb County Leader-News Football Contest was a high-scoring affair for contestants, as our winner this week managed a perfect score.
This week, Martin Duran takes the top spot, finishing with a mark of 20-0.
We had four contestants tie for second place with a mark of 19-1: Brenda Herrell, Lonnie Neinast, Stevy Smith and Alma Castillo.
The tie-breaker this week was the combined score of Stanford and Notre Dame, which was 56 points.
Brenda Herrell ended up taking second place with a guess of 46 points, while Lonnie Neinast’s guess of 44 points earned him third place over Alma Castillo, who guessed 40 points and Stevy Smith, who guessed 24 points, respectively.
In the High School Ranks, Littlefield won their district-opener over Slaton, 55- 36, while Springlake-Earth 45’ed Hart on Thursday, 52- 6, and Sudan opened district at home with a, 488, victory over Crosbyton. Olton blew out Floydada, 62-7, while Plainview took down Legacy, 3515.
Hereford defeated Pampa, 35-14, while Hale Center defeated Ralls, 35-12, and Permian took down Odessa, 50-26. Ropes edged out Tahoka, 35-34, and Monahans shutout Snyder, 63-0.
In the college ranks, LSU upset Ole Miss in overtime, 29-26, while Clemson defeated Wake Forest, 49-14, and Syracuse took down North Carolina State, 24-17. Georgia Southern survived against Marshall, 24-23, while Penn State avoided an upset in overtime against USC, 33-30.
In the NFL, The Bengals took down the Giants, 17-7, while the Chargers defeated the Broncos, 2316, and the Texans blasted the Patriots, 41-21. The Bears defeated the Jaguars in London, 35-16, while the Colts edged out the Titans, 20-17.
Those who finished 18-2 this week were David Neinast, Dewayne Hayes, Donna Neinast, JC Orozco, Johnny Rosemond, JR Herrell, Mark Grace, Richard Orozco and Robin Elliott, while those who finished 17-3 this week were Larry Ashley, Micky Orozco, Nancy Smith, Terrill Moorhead, Tommy Cloninger and Charlie Smith.
Ivan Estrada, Juan Garza and Trevor Williams each finished 164 this week, while James Hood, Ronnie Martin and Sam Castillo each finished 15-5. Jazmine Davis and Maria Pinon each finished 146, while Ed Dabrowski and Teresa Dabrowski each finished 12-8 this week.
In the overall standings, we have three contestants tied for the top spot with 106 points, which are Martin Duran, Brenda Herrell and Lonnie Neinast. Jr Herrell is in second place with 103 points, while Donna Neinast is in third place with 102 points, and Stevy Smith, Rosemond and Richard Orozco are tied for fourth with 101 points.
Estrada is in fifth with 100 points, while David Neinast, JC Orozco and Micky Orozco are tied for sixth with 98 points. Alma Castillo and Martin are tied for seventh with 96 points, while Hayes, Ashley and Moorhead are tied for eighth with 95 points. Elliott is in ninth with 94 points and Cloninger rounds out the top 10 with 93 points.
