The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity basketball team thrashed the Dimmitt Bobbies on the road Friday night, 83-14, to sweep the season series.
With the win, the Lady Cats improved to 21-11 overall, 10-5 in district play.
The Lady Cats drained a three to open the contest and Amoni Jefferson followed it up with a lay-up off of a steal, pushing their lead to, 5-0, with 7:34 to play in the opening quarter. Dimmitt took a time out with 6:39 to play in the first quarter, and out of the break, Jefferson was fouled on an attempt, earning a trip to the line. She made both free throws and on their next possession, Cobi Saldana dished the outlet pass down court to Jefferson, who was fouled on the shot attempt. She split the attemtps at the line, making the score, 8-0.
Zalise Davis, drove the lane, kicking the ball out to Jefferson, who buried a three from the right elbow, and Madison Williams kept it going with a floater off of the glass to push their lead to, 13-0, with 3:39 to play in the first quarter. Williams dropped in a lay-up and Jefferson followed it up with a lay-up off of an assist from Williams, pushing their lead to, 17-0, as Dimmitt took a time out to talk things over with 3:17 remaining in the quarter.
Out of the break, Jefferson buried a three from the top of the key, off of an assist from Davis, and Davis followed it up with a steal on their own end, dishing it to Williams for a layup, making the score, 22-0. Jefferson grabbed a steal on an inbound play on their own end, and dropped in the easy lay-up, drawing an and-one foul on the play. She missed the free throw, leaving the score, 24-0.
Aislei Thomas got the Bobbies on the board with a lay-up in transition, but Jasmine Almance answered with a lay-up off of an inbound pass from Aubree Richardson under the basket, pushing their lead to, 262. With under a minute to go in the first quarter, Williams was fouled on an attempt by CJ Sepeda. She converted both shots at the line, making the score, 282. On the other end, the Bobbies split a pair of free throws, but Littlefield would respond, as Davis drew a shooting foul on Sepeda. She converted both free throws, extending their lead to, 303.
Aubrey Anes closed out the quarter with a floater in the lane, trimming the lead to, 30-5, as the first quarter came to a close.
Jefferson deflected a pass to open the second frame, as Williams grabbed the loose ball, dishing it to Jefferson for a quick lay-up, stretching their lead to, 325. Jefferson picked up a steal, dishing it ahead to Williams for the fast-break lay-up, and Williams followed it up with a three from the left elbow off of the assist from Cobi Saldana, making the score, 37-5, with 5:10 to play in the first half.
Anes dropped in a putback off of a miss free throw by Idalis Ortega, but on the other end, Jefferson knocked down a pair of free throws with just over four minutes to go in the half, making the score, 397. Jefferson deflected a pass on the defensive end, as Davis picked it up and dished it back to Jefferson for the quick lay-up, extending their lead to, 41-7.
Davis kept it going with a floater in the lane and on their next possession, Jefferson was fouled on an attempt by Anes. She split the attempts at the line, making the score, 44-7, with 2:20 to play in the half. Jefferson would knock down a pair of free throws after being fouled on a defensive rebound by Idalis Ortega and she followed it up with an outlet pass to Davis for a fast-break lay-up, making the score, 48-7.
Abby Rodriguez passed the ball to Jefferson, who bounced it to Williams for a lay-up and Williams followed it up with a three from the right wing, stretching their lead to, 53-7, with under a minute to play in the half. Riley Ramos split a pair of free throws for Dimmitt, but on the other end, Davis was fouled by Thomas and knocked down bothfree throws to close out the half with Littlefield in control, 558.
Each team scored a bucket to open the second half, but Jefferson grabbed a steal and drove to the basket, dumping the ball off to Williams on the fast-break for a lay-up, making the score, 59- 10. Williams dropped in a lay-up, but Aracelli Herrera responded with a lay-up off of a steal, trimming the lead to, 61-12, with 3:02 remaining in the third quarter.
Williams drained a three from the right elbow, as Littlefield took a time out with 2:13 to play in the third. Out of the break, Jefferson dropped in a lay-up, drawing an and-one foul on Idanis Ortega. She converted the free throw to push their lead to, 67-12, going into the final quarter of play.
Davis knocked down a three from the left elbow, off of an assist from Saldana to opent he fourth quarter, and Jefferson was fouled on a fast-break attempt by Thomas on their next possession, earning a trip to the line. She made one-of-two shots at the line, and Williams followed it up with a lay-up through contact, drawing an and-one foul on Sepeda. She missed the free throw, leaving the score, 73-12.
Williams picked up a steal, tossing the outlet pass down court to Davis for the fastbreak lay-up, extending their lead to, 75-12, as Dimmitt took a time out with 6:06 to play in the game. Out of the break, Davis poked the ball away and it was picked up by Williams, who hit Jefferson on for the fastbreak lay-up, making the score, 77-12.
Davis dropped in a lay-up, drawing an and-one foul on the play. She converted the free throw to push their lead to, 80-12. Wiht 1:45 remaining, Jefferson split a pair of free throws and Davis followed it up with a steal, dishing the outlet pass to Jefferson for the quick layup, stretching their lead to, 83-12.
Kaylynn Grado knocked down a jumper from the left elbow to close out the game, as Littlefield took the contest, 83-14.
Jefferson led the way for the Lady Cats with 36 points, while Williams poured in 30 points. Davis chipped in 15 points and Almance finished with two points in the contest.
The Lady Cats closed out the regular season on Tuesday at home against Idalou. Results were not available at press time. They will await their first- round match-up in the Class 3ADI Basketball play-offs.
