Lady Cats take second at Floydada tourney

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity softball team went 4-1 on the weekend in Floydada, finishing as the Runner-up of the Tournament, falling to Snyder in the Championship game, 6-1. In the championship game against Snyder, Cadence Sanchez pitched six innings, giving up six runs and three walks, while earning three strike outs.

The game was scoreless through three innings and both teams scratched a run across in the fourth inning to take a, 1-1, tie into the fifth inning. Snyder pushed three runs across in the bottom of the fifth and two across in the bottom of the sixth to take the contest, 6-1.

Cadence Sanchez pitched a complete game giving up six runs and two walks, while earning three strike outs.

Taryn Golden was 2-3 at the plate with a single and a double, while Myli Hernandez was 1-3 with a double and Mykenzie Price was 1-3 with a triple in the contest.

In their first game of the tournament, Littlefield took down Post, 13-1.

Lyric Rios pitched three innings, giving up one run and three walks, while earning two strike outs.

Bryndle Ray was 3-3 with three doubles and two RBI’s, while Price went 2-4 at the plate with two singles and three RBI’s. Golden was 2-3 with a single and a double and two RBI’s, and Sanchez was 2-3 with two doubles and one RBI.

In game two of the tournament, Floydada, the Lady Cats edged out the Lady Winds, 4-3.

Littlefield jumped out to a, 2-0, lead in the first inning, and added a run in the top of the second, but Floydada cut into the lead with a run in the bottom of the third to make the score, 2-1.

Floydada outscored the Lady Cats, 2-1, in the fifth inning, but the Lady Cats were able to hold on for the victory, 4-3.

Sanchez pitched a complete game, giving up three runs, while earning five strike outs.

Ray was 2-3 at the plate with a single, a home run and one RBI, while Alyssa Torres was 1-1 with a single and an RBI. Rios was 1-2 with a double and an RBI and Myli Hernandez was 1-3 with a triple.

In game three against Palo Duro, the Lady Cats rolled to a, 15-3, victory.

Littlefield jumped out to a, 7-1, lead through the first inning, and outscored Palo Duro, 4-2, in the second frame to take a, 11-3, lead into the third inning. Both teams were scoreless in the third inning, but the Lady Cats closed out the contest with a, four-run fourth inning to take the contest, 15-3.

Rios pitched a complete game, going four innings, giving up three runs and three walks, while earning two strike outs.

Cali Saldana was 2-2 at the plate with a two triples and four RBI’s, while Rios was 1-2 with a single and three RBI’s and Kaeleigh Logan was 1-1 with a single and three RBI’s.

In their final game of pool play on Friday, Littlefield blanked Seagraves, 15-0.

The Lady Cats scored two runs in the first inning and one in the second inning, before exploding for 12 runs in the top of the third inning.

Saldana pitched a complete game earning six strike outs in the contest.

Price was 1-3 at the plate with a homerun and one RBI, while Saldana was 1-2 with a homerun and two RBI’s and Sanchez was 23 with a triple, a homerun and one RBI. Golden was 2-3 with two singles and two RBI’s.
