The Littlefield Lady Cats’ took on Lamesa in their second match of the Dual on Tuesday, as they took down the Lady Tornadoes, 2-0, 25-14 and 25-20.
With the win, the Lady Cats improved to 13-7 overall on the year.
Brown opened the match with three consecutive points for the Lady Cats, before Zoey Sifuentes delivered a tip for a kill to make the score, 3-1. Kali Campos tipped the net for a kill for Lamesa, but Cali Saldana responded with a tip off of Rubi Guzman for a kill, making the score, 4-2.
Two plays later, Lamesa would tie the set, 4-4, after Sifuentes tipped the net for a kill, but Littlefield would respond to regain the lead on the next play, and Cobi Saldana followed it up with a kill off of Guzman, making the score, 6-4. Maggie McNeese sent a hit into the foul pole, but Cobi Saldana picked her up on the next play, delivering a kill between M’Kenzie Aremendariz and Kaylee Hernandez, pushing their lead to, 7-5.
Gabby Medina served up an ace off of Armendariz, but Lamesa answered, delivering a kill off of Madi Williams, trimming the lead to, 8-6. Campos sent a serve short of the net for Lamesa, but a double-hit was called on Littlefield, making the score, 9-7. McNeese delivered a kill off of the block attempt by Sifuentes and Williams followed it up with a kill off of Evelisa Vasquez, stretching their lead to, 11-7.
Valdez sent a tip into the net and Williams sent a hit sailing out of bounds to cut the lead to, 11-9, and Lamesa capitalized, as Sifuentes tipped the net for a kill to make it a one-point game, 1110. Sifuentes set a kill out of bounds on the next play, sparking a rally for the Lady Cats.
Cali Saldana dropped in a kill inside the back boundary line and Campos was called for a doublehit pushing the lead to, 14-10. Brown served up an ace on the back line, but the rally would end when Valdez sent a tip into the net, making the score, 15-11. Lamesa would not capitalize on the play, as they were called for back-toback double-hits, turning the serve back over to the Lady Cats. A tip from Monica Elizondo was hit into the net by Campos and Myli Hernandez sent a kill past Guzman, pushing their lead to, 19-11.
Cobi Saldana set Elizondo up for a kill and several miscues by the Lady Tornadoes, made the score, 24-11, before Cali Saldana sent a hit into the net, making the score, 24-12. Armendariz delivered an ace off of McNeese and Elizondo sent a hit into the net, before a doublehit was called on Kaylee Hernandez, giving Littlefield the set, 25-14, putting them up 1-0 in the match.
Sifuentes served up an ace in front of Brown to get set two going, but Williams answered with a kill in front of Campos to even the set, 1-1. The play would spark a six-point rally for the Lady Cats, forcing Lamesa to take a time out, trailing, 7-1. Out of the break, Valdez set Cali Saldana up for a kill, but on the next play, Hernandez hit a ball into the net to end the rally, making the score, 82.
Hernandez would fire right back with a kill to regain the serve for Littlefield and Lamesa was called for an illegal front row attack, stretching the lead to, 10-2. Cali Saldana sent a serve out of bounds and on the following play the Lady Cats were called for four hits, trimming the lead to, 10-4. Nadia Garcia delivered a kill in front of Brown and a few Littlefield miscues, prompted Head Coach Kaylee Longoria to take a time out to talk things over.
Out of the break, Hernandez dropped in a tip for a kill to regain the serve for Littlefield with the score, 11-7. Cobi Saldana dropped in a kill in the back corner and on the next play, Aremndariz sent a hit into the net, making the score, 13-7. The Lady Cats responded, as Williams set Hernandez up for a kill to make the score, 14-8, but they couldn’t keep it going, as a kill attempt from McNeese landed out of bounds on the sideline, making the score, 14-9.
Lamesa would score back-toback points, before Sady Barrioz sent a hit into the net, making the score, 15-10. Medina’s serve went un- returned by Lamesa, but Barrioz would delivered a kill off of the block attempt of McNeese, cutting the lead to, 16-11. Rios delivered a kill and Torres served up an ace off of Cambry Chavira, before the Lady Cats sent a hit out of bounds on the next play, making the score, 18-12.
Lamesa would rally back and pull within one point, making the score, 20-19, as a return off of the serve by Brown was tipped out of bounds by Elizondo. But, Hernandez would answer with a kill off of Guzman and Campos was called for being across the net on the next play, pushing the lead back out to, 22-19.
Cali Saldana tipped the net with her serve for an ace and followed it up with another ace, before sending a serve sailing out of bounds to make the score, 24- 20. Hernandez would close out the set with a kill past Sifuentes, making the score, 25-20.
The Lady Cats hosted Tahoka on Sasturday. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season next Saturday with a home game against Loop.
