The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team won a nondistrict match-up over the Dimmitt Bobbies on the road on Tuesday, 3-1.
With the win, the Lady Cats improve to 18-10 overall on the season.
The Lady Cats opened up set one with four consecutive aces from Madison McNeese and they followed it up with a kill on the next play to make the score, 5-0. A kill attempt by Mylie Hernandez landed just out of bounds, but the Bobbies were called for touching the net and Dimmitt hit a ball out of bounds on the following play, making the score, 7-1.
Hernandez delivered a kill off of a partial block by Makayla Delgado, forcing Dimmitt to take a time out with Littlefield leading, 81. Julie Bownds delivered a kill off of a block attempt by Delgado and Bownds delivered a block for a kill off of the kill attempt from Delgado on the next play to make the score, 10-1. Bownds kept it going with a kill off of the block attempt from Delgado, but the Bobbies answered with a kill to trim the lead to, 11-2.
A kill by Madison McNeese fell short of the net and the Bobbies capitalized on the next play as Mariah Marmolejo had a tip fall in for a kill, making the score, 11-4. Kaeleigh Logan sent a hit into the net for the Lady Cats, but Victoria Hernandez sent a hit out of bounds, making the score, 12-5. Marmolejo sent a hit into the net, but the Bobbies scored on the next play to trim the lead to, 13-6.
Kenzi Jordan sent a hit into the net, making the score and a screening call on Littlefield cut the lead to, 13-8. Kriselle Ramirez sent a hit out of bounds for the Bobbies and McNeese followed it up with a kill at the net off of a long dig from Marmolejo, pushing their lead back out to, 15-8. Bownds sent a serve short of the net, but Ramirez sent a serve out of bounds, extending the lead to, 16-9.
Kyndal Edgemon delivered a kill in the back corner for Littlefield and Logan served up an ace off of Sandra Vasquez, before Edgemon sent a hit sailing out of bounds, making the score, 18-10. Dimmitt sent a hit out of bounds and Bryndle Ray followed it up with an ace, pushing their lead to, 2010. Kimberley Solis sent a hit out of bounds, but Ray sent a serve short of the net, making the score, 21-11.
McNeese served up four consecutive points to close out the set, 25-11.
Na’Khiya Porras sent a serve short of the net to open set two and McNeese followed it up with an ace off of Marmolejo, before the Lady Cats were called for four hits on the following play, making the score, 2- 1. The Bobbies couldn’t capitalize, as D12 sent a serve short of the net, sending the serve back to Littlefield.
Delgado sent a hit into the net and Ramirez sent a hi sailing out of bounds, before another hit from Delgado fell short of the net, making the score, 6-1. Marmolejo sent a tip past Bownds for a kill and Delgado followed it up with an ace to cut the lead to, 6-3. A hit by McNeese sailed out of bounds, but Delgado’s next serve fell short of the net, making the score, 7-4.
Victoria Hernandez dropped a kill in the back corner for Dimmitt, but Jocelyn Jimenez was called for an illegal attack, giving the serve back to Littlefield. Solis sent a kill over Jordan and McNeese, but a tip by Logan fell in the back corner for a kill, stretching the lead back out to, 9-6. A few plays later, Dimmitt tied the set when Bownds sent a hit out of bounds, making the score, 13-13, as Littlefield took a time out.
Victoria Hernandez sent a serve short of the net and Bownds followed it up with a kill, before Victoria Hernandez answered with a kill off of the block attempt from Hernandez, making the score, 1514. Delgado served up an ace to tie the set and Hernandez sent a kill out of bounds to give Dimmitt their first lead, 15-16. It was shortlived as Porras sent a hit into the net and McNeese sent a hit over the net that was tipped out of bounds by Ramirez making the score, 17-16.
Bownds dropped a kill on the back row and a serve from Abigail Ybarbo was dug by Vasquez, but the ball landed out of bounds, making the score, 19-16. Dimmitt took a time out and out of the break, a dig by Kennadi Hanlin, off of the hit from Milee Thomas fell in for a kill, making the score, 19-17. A hit by MCNeese fell short of the net and a tip by Logan was tipped by Jimenez before falling in for a kill to stretch the lead to, 2018.
MyKenzie Price sent a serve out of bounds, but McNeese followed it up with a kill past Vasquez to push their lead back to, 21-19. The Lady Cats would close out the set on a, 4-1, scoring run to take set two, 25-22.
The Bobbies would bounce back and take set three, 15-25.
Victoria Hernandez was blocked by Hernandez for a kill to open set four, but McNeese’s serve fell short of the net tying the set, 1-1. The Bobbies couldn’t capitalize, as Victoria Hernandez sent a serve sailing out of bounds, and Bownds followed it up with a kill at the net off of a long dig from K’mree Nino to push their lead to, 3-1. Littlefield scored again on the next play and the rally continued, as Marmolejo sent a hit into the net, making the score, 5-1.
Delgado delivered a kill off of the block attempt from Bownds and the Bobbies followed it up with another point on the next play, trimming the lead to, 5-3, before Bownds delivered a kill at the net to push their lead to, 6-3. The Bobbies were called for four hits, but Bri Valdez sent her next serve short of the net, trimming the lead to, 74.
Several plays later, the Bobbies would tie the set, 11-11, as a tip from Jordan landed out of bounds. The teams went back-and-forth until McNeese delivered a kill off of Marmolejo to make the score, 17-16. Dimmitt was called for a double hit and Logan followed it up with an ace to push their lead to, 19-16. Dimmitt was called for four hits, as Dimmitt took a time out, trailing, 20-16.
Thomas was blocked by McNeese for a kill and Jordan delivered a kill on the left sideline to stretch the lead to, 22-16. Thomas had a tip blocked by McNeese for a kill, but the Lady Cats were called for four hits after a hit from Jordan didn’t make it over the net. Edgemon responded with a kill between Solis and Delgado, but Ray’s next serve fell short of the net, making the score, 24-18. Littlefield would close out the match as a kill from Hernandez was hit out of bounds by Solis.
The Lady Cats began the second round of district play on Saturday with a road game against Idalou. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season on Tuesday with a home game against Tulia.
