The Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team fell to the Shallowater Fillies on Saturday in district play, 0-3.
With the loss, the Lady Cats fall to 15-10 overall, 2-3 in district play.
Shallowater jumped out to a, 5-8, lead in set one, after a kill by Emma Clawson. Littlefield would regain the serve, afterAmiah Elizondo delivered a kill off ofAnaby Fleming to make the score, 6-8. Carli Buckley delivered a kill off of Bri Valdez, but on the next play, Riley Klatt sent a kill attempt sailing out of bounds, making the score, 7-9.
Tatum Rentfro delivered a kill off of Kennadi Hanlin, sparking a three-point rally for the Fillies, before a hit by Valdez fell inside the back corner of the court for a kill, trimming the lead to, 8-12. McKenzi Cook was called for a carry, but Rentfro answered with a kill in front of Bryndle Ray and Klatt followed it up with an ace to push their lead to, 9-14.
Lyric Rios was blocked by Clawson for a kill and Clawson followed it up with a kill in front of the block attempt by Myli Hernandez, making the score, 9-16, as Littlefield took a time out to talk things over. Out of the break, Klatt’s serve landed out of bounds on the sideline to make the score, 1016.
Maggie Grimes sent a kill sailing out of bounds, but a hit by Rentfro on the next play fell in front of Ray for a kill, sparking a seven-point rally for the Fillies. A hit by Ray was tipped out of bounds by Kamryn Motheral, and Buckley was blocked by Rios for a kill, before Grimes delivered a kill off of Ray to make the score, 13-24. A hit by Hanlin tipped the net and landed out of bounds for the Lady Cats to end set one with the Fillies taking it, 13-25.
Jaycee Benton sent a kill past Hanlin in the back row to open set two, but the serve by Cook fell short of the net, tying the set, 1-1. Hernandez won a tip battle at the net with Klatt to put the Lady Cats in front, 2-1, but it was short-lived, as a tip by Hernandez landed just out of bounds, making the score, 2-2.
Benton served up back-to-back aces and Rios was blocked by Klatt and Rentfro, and the cover hit by Ray landed out of bounds, making the score, 2-5. Grimes sent a hit sailing out of bounds, as Littlefield regained the serve, but Maggie McNeese’s serve fell short of the net, making the score, 3-6.
Hernandez delivered a kill through the block attempt of Clawson and Grimes, but Rios touched the net on the next play, sparking a nine-point rally for the Fillies. Rios blocked Grimes for a kill to trim the lead to, 516, and Elizondo delivered a kill at the net off of a long dig by Shallowater, making the score, 6-16.
A hit by Elizondo was tipped out of bounds by Logann Carreon, but Buckley answered with a kill past Madi Brown, pushing the lead to, 717. The serve by Motheral fell short of the net and a save by Hanlin on the next play was hit into the net by Clawson, making the score, 9-17.
A tip by Buckley was hit out of bounds by McNeese and Benton followed it up with a kill off of Hernandez, pushing the lead to, 9-19. Buckley kept it going with a kill over the block attempt from Taryn Golden and Hanlin, and on the next play, a kill by Benton was tipped out of bounds by Golden, making the score, 9-21.
A dig by Brown on the next play went into the net for a Fillie point, but on the next sequence, a hit by Hanlin fell in front ofAnaby Fleming for a kill, trimming the lead to, 10-22. Benton sent a hit into the net for Shallowater, but the Lady Cats couldn’t capitalize, as Hanlin’s serve sailed into the net, making the score, 11-23.
Lillie Wells was blocked by Hernandez and the save try was hit out of bounds by Rentfro, making the score, 12-23.A tip by Benton was dug into the net by Ray, but Benton’s serve on the next play sailed out of bounds, making the score, 13-24. A hit by Elizondo was tipped backwards out of bounds by Cook and Rentfro sent a tip into the net to cut the lead to, 1524, but Shallowater would close it out on the next play to take set two, 15-25. Cook opened set three for Shallowater with a serve short of the net, but the Lady Cats couldn’t capitalize, as a hit by Brown fell short of the net on the next play, making the score, 1-1. Hernandez delivered a block on Rentfro, but the ball landed out of bounds for a Fillie point, and Klatt followed it up with a kill to stretch their lead to, 1-3.
Benton’s serve sailed out of bounds for Shallowater, but Rentfro delivered a kill off of Rios to regain the serve for the Fillies, making the score, 2-4. McNeese delivered a kill off of the block attempt by Clawson, but Grimes answered with a kill between McNeese and Hanlin, making the score, 3-5. The teams exchanged points and Buckley sent a hit into the net followed by an ace from Valdez to tie the set, 6-6.
Valdez served up another ace off of Sidney Venable, but on the following play, Elizondo sent a hit into the net to tie the set, 7-7. The play sparked a sixpoint Shallowater rally, making the score, 7-12, as Littlefield took a time out to talk things over. Out of the break, a hit by Hanlin fell in for a kill to trim the lead to, 8-12. Benton would answer with a kill off of Brown, sparking another three-point rally for the Fillies that ended with a hit into the net by Klatt, making the score, 9-15.
Shallowater again scored back-toback points, before the Fillies were called for four hits after a hit by Grimes didn’t make it over the net. Rios couldn’t dig a hit from Grimes that was tipped at the net, pushing the lead to, 10-18. Shallowater would close out the set on a, 4-7, scoring run to take set three, 14-25, and the match, 0-3.
The Lady Cats hosted Liberty on Tuesday. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season on Saturday with a home game against Idalou.
First set is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
