Lady Cats go 3-2 at Sundown Tournament

The Littlefield Lady Cats competed at the Sundown Tournament this past weekend, where they went 3-2 on the weekend.

The Lady Cats improve to 8-3 overall on the year.

In their first game on the Tournament against Tulia, the Lady Cats defeated the Lady Hornets, 20-0, behind a no-hitter from Cali Saldana in the circle.

Saldana pitched one inning, giving up one walk in the contest.

At the plate, Brianna Aleman was 3-3 with two doubles and six RBI’s, while Maggie McNeese finished the game with a double, a triple, a walk and four RBI’s. Hannah Lopez added a double, a walk and three RBI’s, while Natalia Sanchez added a double, two walks and two RBI’s.

Saldana, Brinley Acevedo, Bryndle Ray and Alyssa Torres each accounted for an RBI in the contest.

In game two of the Tournament on Thursday, the Lady Cats fell to the host team Sundown Roughettes, 6-5.

In the circle, Sanchez pitched six innings, giving up seven hits, two walks and five runs, three earned, while striking out two batters.

At the Plate, Lopez had the lone RbI of the game, while Ray drew two walks and scored once. Myli Hernandez recorded two hits in the contest and scored once, while Sanchez and McNeese each recorded a hit.

The Lady Cats resumed play on Friday as they took down Pecos, 13-3, in four innings.

In the circle, Saldana pitched four innings, giving up five hits, three walks and three runs, two earned, while striking out one batter.

At the plate, Sanchez had a triple and two RBI’s, while Aleman had two hits including a homerun and one RBI, and Hernandez finished with three hits including a double and one RBI. Tailyn Gomez, Acevedo, Rodriguez, Torres and McNeese each recorded an RBI in the contest as well.

The Lady Cats took on Lubbock- Cooper’s JV in their second game on Friday, taking down the Lady Pirates, 11-1.

Sanchez started the game in the circle for the Lady Cats, giving up two hits, one walk and one run, while striking out one batter. Saldana closed out the final two innings, giving up two hits and one walk, while also striking out one batter.

At the plate, the Lady Cats were led by Sanchez, who finished with two homeruns and three RBI’s, while Aleman tallied a double, a homerun and five RBI’s. Ray tallied two doubles and one RBI, while McNeese and Hernandez each drew a walk and scored in the contest.

In their final game of the tournament on Saturday, the Lady Cats fell to Midland Christian, 7-2.

In the circle, Saldana pitched three innings, giving up five hits, two walks and five runs, two earned, while striking out one. Amaya McCanick pitched three innings giving up four hits, two walks and two runs, while striking out three.

At the plate, McCanick finished with a triple and an RBI, while Hernandez added a double and an RBI. Sanchez finished with two hits and scored once, while Ray also tallied a hit in the contest.

The Lady Cats opened district play on Tuesday at Dimmitt. Results were not available at press time. They will continue district play on Saturday at home against Shallowater.

First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
