The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team fell at home on Tuesday in their home districtopener against the Shallowater Fillies, 1-3; 7-25, 25-22, 12-25, 8-25.
With the loss, the Lady Cats fall to 15-11 overall, 0-2 in district play.
Shallowater opened up set one on an, 0-6, scoring run forcing the Lady Cats to take a time out to talk things over. Out of the break, Emma Clawson sent a hit into the net and Cali Saldana followed it up with a kill off of Jorja McGuire, trimming the lead to, 2-6.
The rally was short-lived, as Madi Williams was called for a lift and Myli Hernandez sent a hit into the net, pushing Shallowater’s lead back out to, 2-8. Kamryn Motheral sent a serve out of bounds on the sideline for the Fillies and Clawson sent a kill out of bounds to cut the lead to, 4-8, before Maggie Grimes sent a kill past Hernandez to make the score, 4-9.
Jaci Fenter sent a serve short of the net for Shallowater, but Grimes answered with a kill off of the block attempt by Maggie McNeese, stretching the lead to, 5- 10. Hernandez was called for a doublehit, but Emie Lusk followed it up with a kill to make the score, 5-12.
A bad hit by Williams, prompted the Lady Cats to take a time out, trailing 5-13. Out of the break, McNeese saved a ball on the sideline, but no one played it, as it fell in for a Fillie point pushing the lead to, 5-14. McNeese was called for being on the net and Cali Saldana sent a kill out of bounds to make the score, 5-16.
Sidney Venable served up an ace and Williams was called for a double hit on a dig attempt making the score, 5-18. Grimes sent a hit short of the net and Cali Saldana followed it up with a kill in front of Motheral to trim the lead to, 7-18. Lusk dropped in a kill in the back corner of the court and Carli Buckley sent a tip past Nevaeh Lopez’s block attempt to extend the lead to, 7-20.
Shallowater would close out the set on an, 0-5, scoring run to take the set, 7-25.
Littlefield would battle back to take set two, 25-22, before dropping the next two sets, 12-25 and 8-25, losing the match, 1-3.
The Lady Cats traveled to Tulia on Saturday for their first meeting with the Lady Hornettes. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season on Oct. 12th when they host Childress.
The first set is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
