The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team fell to the Shallowater Fillies on the road on Saturday, 0-3; 9-25, 17-25 and 8-25.
With the loss, the Lady Cats fall to 16-14 overall, 1-5 in district play.
The Fillies opened set one on a, 1-4, scoring run, before they were called for a double-hit turning the serve over to the Lady Cats. Jorja McGuire was blocked by Myli Hernandez, but the ball landed out of bounds, pushing the lead to, 2-5. Maggie Grimes served up an ace off of Madi Brown, but the Lady Cats would respond, as Hernandez dropped a tip in front of Grace Barrett for a kill, trimming the lead to, 3-6.
Tatum Rentfro delivered a kill off of Maggie McNeese, sparking a five point scoring run for the Fillies, before Littlefield took a time out trailing, 3-11. Out of the break, Carli Buckley sent a kill attempt out of bounds for the Fillies, but the Lady Cats couldn’t capitalize, as Hernandez sent a serve out of bounds on the sideline, making the score, 4-12.
Emma Clawson delivered a kill in front of Cobi Saldana, but McGuire sent her next serve sailing out of bounds, making the score, 5-13. A tip by Bri Valdez landed out of bounds on the sideline and on the next play, Cali Saldana had a tip blocked by Grimes for a kill, pushing their lead to, 5-15. Kamryn Motheral sent a serve out of bounds on the sideline for the Fillies, but Shallowater bounced back, delivering a kill off of Madi Williams, stretching their lead to, 616.
Williams was blocked by Rentfro and Grimes for a kill and Clawson delivered a kill in the back corner of the court to extend their lead to, 6-18. Nevaeh Lopez was blocked by Clawson and Grimes for a kill, as Littlefield took another time out to talk things over. Out of the break, the Fillies sent a hit short of the net and Cali Saldana followed it up with a tip for a kill on the next play to cut the lead to, 8-19.
Shallowater, though, would close out the set on a, 1-6, scoring run to take set one, 9-25.
Littlefield jumped out to an early lead in set two, as Cali Saldana dropped a kill in front of Grimes’ block attempt and a bad set by Barrett on the next play had the Lady Cats in front, 2-0. Grimes sent a kill attempt out of bounds and Hernandez kept the rally going with a kill in front of Barrett, making the score, 40.
Grimes dropped a tip on the sideline for a kill to get the Fillies on the board and Hernandez sent a hit sailing out of bounds to cut the lead to, 4-2. A dig by Bryndle Ray was tipped over the net for a kill by Hernandez, pushing their lead to, 5-2. Sidney Venable was blocked by Hernandez, however the ball landed out of bounds for a Fillie point, trimming the lead to, 5-3.
Buckley was called for coming across the net for the Fillies, but Littlefield was unable to capitalize, as Valdez was called for a double-hit, trimming the lead to, 6-4. McGuire sent a kill out of bounds, but again the Lady Cats couldn’t capitalize, as Cali Saldana sent a hit into the net, making the score, 7-5. Two plays later, Shallowater would tie the set, 7- 7, after Lopez was called for a double-hit.
Clawson followed it up with a kill past McNeese and a dig by Valdez on the kill attempt by Clawson was hit over the net by Cobi Saldana, but the ball landed out of bounds, making the score, 7-9. Littlefield took a time out to talk things over, and out of the break, Lopez was called for touching the net, stretching the Shallowater lead to, 7-10.
A tip by Valdez landed out of bounds for the Lady Cats, but on the next play, a tip by Clawson fell short of the net, making the score, 8-11. Emie Lusk delivered a kill off of Alyssa Torres, sparking an eight-point rally for the Fillies that ended when Clawson sent a hit into the net, making the score, 9-19.
Clawson hit the foul pole with a hit and a tip by Ray was hit short of the net by Clawson on the next play, cutting the lead to, 11-19. Ray served up an ace between McGuire and Motheral, before sending her next serve out of bounds, making the score, 12-20. Cali Saldana had a tip blocked for a kill, but on the next play, Grimes was blocked by Lopez for a kill, giving the serve back to Littlefield with the score, 13-21.
Rentfro delivered a kill for the Fillies, but Hernandez answered for the Lady Cats with a kill off of Rentfro’s block attempt, trimming the lead to, 14-22. A tip by Grimes was tipped out of bounds by Ray and McGuire tipped the net for a kill on the next play, making the score, 14-24, before Littlefield dropped in a tip for a kill to regain the serve.
A dig by Taylor Wood made it over the net, but landed out of bounds for a Lady Cat point, making the score, 16-24, and Rentfro sent a hit into the net on the next play, before Shallowater answered with a kill by Buckley off of McNeese’s block attempt to end the set, 1725, putting the Fillies up 2-0 in the match.
Shallowater jumped out to a, 1- 7, lead in set three, as Littlefield took a time out to talk things over. Out of the break, Cobi Saldana had a tip blocked by Rentfro, but the ball landed out of bounds to cut the lead to, 2-7, as Littlefield regained the serve. It was short- lived, though, as Rentfro dropped in a tip for a kill to push the lead back out to, 2-8.
Buckley delivered a kill on the sideline for Shallowater, but Venable sent a hit into the net for the Fillies on the next play, making the score, 3-9. Buckley delivered a kill off of Hernandez, sparking a five-point rally for the Fillies, that ended when McNeese dropped in a kill in the back corner, making the score, 4-14.
A bad set by Jaci Fenter gave the serve back to the Lady Cats, but during the next play, Lopez was called for being on the net, making the score, 5-15. Clawson sent a kill past McNeese, sparking another five-point rally, that ended when Motheral sent a serve sailing out of bounds, making the score, 6- 19. Shallowater would go on to close out the set on a, 2-6, scoring run, taking set three, 8-25, and the match 0-3.
The Lady Cats hosted Tulia for senior night on Tuesday. Results were not available at press time. They will close out the regular season next Tuesday with a road game against Childress.
The first set is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
