Lady Cats fall on the road to Denver City, 0-3

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team fell to the Denver City Fillies on the road on Tuesday in straight sets, 0-3.

With the loss, the Lady Cats fall to 1-1 overall on the season.

Amber Carter sent a hit sailing out of bounds for the Fillies to open set one, but on the next play, Serah Woosley delivered a kill off of Bryndle Ray to even the set, 1-1. Brooklyn McCray followed it up with an ace on the back line for the Fillies and Mia Carmona kept it going with a kill off of Ray to stretch their lead to, 1-3.

The Fillies would collect four more points, before a hit from Carter fell short of the net, making the score, 2-7. Serah Woosley delivered a kill off of the block attempt from Myli Hernandez to regain the serve, but her serve on the next play fell short of the net, trimming the lead to, 3-8.After the serve from Bri Valdez, Aubrey Ayala sent a hit out of bounds and the Lady Cats were able to follow it up, as Carter was blocked by Hernandez for a kill, cutting the lead to, 5-8.

Ayala would regain the serve for the Fillies, as she sent a kill past Valdez, but the next serve from Carter fell short of the net, making the score, 6-9.Ayala sent a kill past Alyssa Torres, but the Fillies would give the serve right back to Littlefield on the next play, as Karley Moore sent a hit sailing out of bounds to make the score, 7-10.

A block by Maggie McNeese didn’t make it over the net for the Lady Cats, but Moore sent a hit into the net and Ray followed it up with an ace off of Carter to cut the lead to, 9-11. Madi Mcleroy delivered a kill through the block attempt of McNeese and Cobi Saldana and on the next play, a long break from Madi Williams off of the serve was killed at the net by Carter, pushing their lead back out to, 9-13.

McNeese responded with a kill off of Ayala for Littlefield, but a kill from Carter on the next play sparked a three-point rally for the Fillies, stretching their lead to, 16-10. Hernandez delivered a kill to stop the run, but Carter answered right back for Denver City with a kill off of Madi Brown, making the score, 11-17.

Aserve from Serah Woosley landed out of bounds, but a littlefield miscue sparked a four-point Fillies’ rally, before Hernandez dropped a tip inside the back corner for a kill to trim the lead to, 13-21.Ayala delivered a kill off of Hernandez, but Moore sent a hit sailing out of bounds on the next play, making the score, 14-22.

Ayala sent a tip over the net and Tailyn Gomez tried to make a dig in front of the net, but slid across the net, stretching the Fillie lead to, 14-23. Moore sent a hit into the net and Serah Woosley followed it up with a kill that landed out of bounds on the sideline, to make the score, 16-23, but back-toback double-hit calls on Williams and McNeese closed out the set, as the Fillies took set one, 16-25.

Carter opened set two for the Fillies with a kill off of Brown, but the Fillies were called for a double-hit on the next play, tying the set, 1-1. Carter sent a kill out of bounds and then sent a hit into the net on the next play to give Littlefield a, 3-1, advantage. Cali Saldana delivered a kill off of the block attempt by Serah Woosley and Carmona and a hit from Carmona on the next play landed out of bounds, stretching the Lady Cat lead to, 5-1.

Williams delivered a kill off of a long break from Carter, but Ayala responded with a kill inside the back line for Denver City, making the score, 6-2. The fillies would cut the lead to two points, before Hernandez delivered a kill through the block attempt of Carter an Ayala, making the score, 7-4.

Valdez served up an ace and a hit by Cali Saldana on the next play, was hit out of bounds by Daniela Vega, pushing their lead to, 9-4. Carter sent a hit out of bounds, prompting Denver City to take a time out to talk things over. Out of the break, Valdez’s serve sailed out of bounds, trimming the lead to, 10-5.

The Fillies could not capitalize, as Cali Saldana dropped a kill between Carmona and Moore, extending their lead back out to, 11-5. Denver City would no go away, as they battled back to cut the lead to, 11-8, on a double-hit by Valdez. A dig from Cali Saldana floated back over the net and fell in for a kill after Vega couldn’t get there for the dig, pushing the lead back out to, 12-8.

The Fillies were called four four hits after a hit byAyala fell short of the net, but McNeese was called for touching the net on the following play, making the score, 13-9. The teams went backand- forth before Serah Woosley blocked Williams for a kill to tie the set, 21-21. McNeese was blocked by Serah Woosley and Carte for a kill on the next play, and Carter followed it up, tipping the net for a kill to make the score 21-23.

Williams got called for going across the net on a save attempt, but the Fillies’ next serve sailed out of bounds, making the score, 22-24. However, Denver City would close out the set on the next play, as Carter delivered a kill off of Williams’block attempt. The Fillies took set two, 22-25, going up 02 in the match.

McNeese sent a hit into the net to begin set three, but the Lady Cats delivered a block for a kill on the next play to make the score, 1-1. Serah Woosley delivered a kill off of Cali Saldana, but a kill attempt by Carter on the next play landed out of bounds, keeping the set tied, 2-2. Carter sent a kill past Brown andWilliams was called for a double-hit, stretching the Denver City lead to, 2-4, before Hernandez blocked Ayala for a kill, trimming the lead to one point, 3-4.

A dig by Brown floated into the foul pole for a Fillie point and Ayala followed it up with a kill off of Torres, sparking a four-point rally, before Hernandez delivered a block onAyala for a kill, making the score, 4-9. Denver City went right back on the attack, as Ayala sent a kill over McNeese to regain the serve. Cali Saldana was blocked by Ayala for a kill and Carmona served up an ace to stretch the lead to, 4-12.

Littlefield took a time out, and out of the break, Cali Saldana had a hit fall in for a kill off of the set from Valdez, making the score, 5-12. The Fillies, though, would rally for six points, before Mcleroy sent a hit into the net, pushing the lead to, 6-18. The Lady Cats couldn’t capitalize, as Ray’s serve sailed out of bounds and Denver City would close the set out on a, 6-1, scoring run, taking set three, 7-25, and the match 0-3.
