The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team fell in straight sets to the Lubbock Christian Lady Eagles, 0-3; 14-25, 12-25 and 9-25.
With the loss, the Lady Cats fall to 14-8 overall on the season.
Myli Hernandez had a kill blocked by Raegan Lee for a kill to put Lubbock Christian in front, 10, but the Lady Cats responded, as Hernandez delivered a kill through the block attempt of Lee and Presley Hanks, tying the set, 1-1. Cali Saldana sent a hit into the net, but LCHS couldn’t capitalize, as Hanks sent a hit into the net, keeping the set tied, 2-2.
Hernandez delivered a block on Lee for a kill, but Lee responded with a kill between Madi Brown and Madi Williams, making the score, 3-3. Hernandez had a tip land out of bounds and Cobi Saldana hit a ball over, but the ball landed out of bounds, making the score, 3-5. Quinn Bruington was blocked by Monica Elizondo for a kill, but the Lady Eagles again answered with a kill by Tobie McGehee, making the score, 4-6.
Cobi Saldana sent a hit into the net, forcing a four-hit call on Littlefield. Maggie McNeese delivered a kill off of McGehee’s block attempt, but the back-andforth match continued, as Bruington sent a kill past Williams, making the score, 5-8. A save by McNeese floated over the net, but outside of the pole, however, LCHS couldn’t capitalize, as McGehee’s serve fell short of the net, trimming the lead to, 6-9.
Emily Galbraith delivered a kill off of Alyssa Torres, the Lady Cats responded with a block for a kill, making the score, 7-10. Brown’s serve on the next play sailed out of bounds, but the next serve from Kat Dulin landed out of bounds, making the score, 8-11. Hanks delivered a kill in front of Cali Saldana, but Cobi Saldana answered, tipping the net with a hit for a kill, trimming the lead to, 912.
Bruington had a kill land out of bounds on the sideline for LCHS, but a tip on the next play by Hernandez landed outside the back boundary line, pushing the lead back out to, 10-13. Elizondo was called for a double-hit and a kill by Hanks was tipped out of bounds by Williams, making the score, 10-15. Lee served up an ace off of Cali Saldana, as Littlefield took a time out to talk things over, trailing, 10-16.
Out of the break, Williams played a ball off of the net, but Hernandez couldn’t make the save, as LCHS extended their lead to, 10-17. Cobi Saldana delivered a kill past Addie Maddux, but Bruington delivered a tip off of Elizondo for a kill to stretch their lead to, 11-18. Tessa Watts sent a serve short of the net for LCHS, but a kill from Bruington was dug out by Tailyn Gomez and it was tipped out of bounds by LCHS, trimming the lead to, 13-18.
Dulin delivered a kill off of Gomez and McNeese was blocked by Bruington and Galbraith for a kill and Williams sent a hit sailing out of bounds, pushing the lead to, 13-21. Bruington delivered a kill for LCHS and McGehee served up an ace off of Torres, stretching the lead to, 13-23. A save from Mylee Blacklock landed out of bounds on the sideline, but on the next play, Bruington sent a kill past Bri Valdez and Dulin followed it up with a kill through the block attempt by Williams, as LCHS took set one, 14-25.
Dulin sent a serve out of bounds to open set two and Galbraith sent a hit into the net forcing a four-hit call on LCHS, making the score, 20. Lee answered with a kill off of Valdez, but the Lady Cats responded, as Cali Saldana sent a tip over the net that was hit backwards by the Lady Eagles, making the score, 3-1.
LCHS rallied back to tie the set, 3-3, as Bruington delivered a kill off of Hernandez. Cobi Saldana sent back-to-back hits into the net for Littlefield and Lee served up an ace off of Valdez, stretching their lead to, 3-6. LCHS was blocked by Hernandez, but the ball landed out of bounds to make the score, 3-7. The Lady Cats would respond, as Cobi Saldana sent a kill past Bruington’s block attempt, cutting the lead to, 4-7.
The Lady Cats couldn’t rally, as Williams sent a serve short of the net and a tip on the next play by Bruington was tipped out of bounds by Hernandez, pushing the LCHS lead back to, 4- 9. Littlefield would rally back to cut the lead to one point, 8-9, after Dulin was called for being on the net, forcing the Lady Eagles to take a time out to talk things over.
Out of the break, McNeese was called for a lift and Elizondo was blocked by Bruington and Dulin for a kill, stretching the lead to, 911. Dulin sent a hit into the net for LCHS, but they responded, as she delivered a kill over Cali Saldana to make the score, 9-12. The play sparked a three-point rally, that ended when a hit from Cali Saldana tipped the net for a kill, making the score, 10-15.
Dulin delivered a kill off of Torres, but her next serve fell short of the net, making the score, 1116. Lee delivered a kill off of Valdez, sparking an eight-point rally for the Lady Eagles, before Hernandez delivered a kill off of the set from Valdez, making the score, 12-24. Hernandez would sent a tip into the net on the next play, as LCHS took set two, 12-25, going up 0-2 in the match.
LCHS opened set three on a, 15, scoring run, before Galbraith sent a hit out of bounds to make the score, 2-5. LCHS would respond with three consecutive points, as Watts delivered a kill through the Littlefield block attempt. Williams sent a hit into the net and Hanks followed it up with a kill off of the dig attempt from Cobi Saldana to make the score, 28.
A hit from Watts didn’t make it over the net, but Lee answered with a kill off of Cali Saldana and Valdez sent a hit into the net, pushing the lead to, 3-10. Hernandez delivered a kill through the block attempt of Bruington and Hanks, but Bruington answered with a kill in front of Hernandez on the next play to stretch their lead back out to, 411.
A serve from Watts landed out of bounds on the sideline, but the Lady Eagles would respond with a six-point rally, that ended when Holly Marquette sent a serve short of the net, making the score, 6-17. Bruington had a kill blocked by McNeese, but the ball landed out of bounds for a LCHS point, extending the lead to, 6-18. Galbraith delivered a kill off of McNeese and the serve on the next play from Blacklock went unreturned, before LCHS was called for four hits, making the score, 7-20.
LCHS would close out set three on a, 2-5, scoring run to take the set, 9-25, and the match, 3-0.
The Littlefield Lady were at home to take on Loop on Saturday. Results were not available at press time. They will close out the pre-district schedule in Levelland on Tuesday.
First set is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
