The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team saw their season come to an end on Monday in the Class 3A Bi-district round of the volleyball play-offs, as they fell to the Bushland Lady Falcons in straight sets, 0-3, at Dimmitt.
With the loss, the Lady Cats finish the season with an overall mark of 18-14 overall.
Bushland opened up set one on an, 0- 4, scoring run, before LilyAnn Shannon mistimed a tip at the net to make the score, 1-4. Ambree Hatfield delivered a kill off of Madi Brown and she followed it up with a kill in the back corner to push their lead to, 1-6.
Avery Ramos’ serve was broke by Bryndle Ray and tipped out of bounds by the Lady Falcons, trimming the lead to, 2-6. Hanna Samford answered with a kill in the back corner, but Julie Bownds responded with a kill off of Jayce Ornelas, making the score, 3-7. A tip by Kenzie Sims was hit into the net on a dig attempt by Ray and Ava Permenter served up an ace off of Kennadi Hanlin, pushing the lead to, 3-9.
Permenter delivered a kill off of Cali Saldana and Ornelas had a tip tipped out of bounds by Lyric Rios, pushing the lead to, 3-11. Permenter served up an ace off of Brown, as Littlefield took a time out to talk things over. Out of the break, Abby Howell delivered a kill off of Brown, but Sims had her kill attempt land out of bounds on the next play, making the score, 4-13.
Ornelas delivered a kill off of Bri Valdez, before her next serve fell short of the net, making the score, 5-14. A tip by Logan Culpepper hit the court for a Bushland point, sparking an 11-point rally to end set one, as the Lady Falcons took the set, 5-25.
Ornelas sent a kill past Hanlin to open set two and Sims followed it up with a kill off of Brown to make the score, 0-2. Culpepper served up an ace off of Hanlin, and Ornelas followed it up with a kill off of Hanlin to push their lead to, 0-4, before Bella Babbitt was blocked by Myli Hernandez for a kill, making the score, 1-4.
Ornelas sent a kill past Hanlin, but Permenter’s next serve landed out of bounds, trimming the lead to, 2-5. Howell was blocked by Bownds and Rios, but the ball landed out of bounds for a Bushland point, making the score, 2-6. Howell delivered a kill off of the block attempt by Rios, but Ornelas sent a serve sailing out of bounds on the next play, making the score, 3-7.
Shannon sent a kill past Brown, but Bownds answered with a kill off of Sims to trim the lead to, 4-8. Shannon responded with a kill for Bushland and Babbitt delivered a kill off of the block attempt by Hernandez, pushing their lead back out to, 4-10. The play sparked a four- point scoring run for Bushland, that ended when Howell’s serve fell short of the net, making the score, 5-13.
Babbitt delivered a kill off of Valdez, but Ramos’ serve sailed over the back boundary line on the next play, making the score, 614. A kill by Samford was tipped out of bounds by Hanlin and Maggie McNeese hit a ball out of bounds on the next play, making the score, 6-15. Ornelas delivered a kill off of a block attempt by Hernandez, and a hit by Taryn Golden on the next play landed out of bounds, making the score, 617.
Bushland would close out the set on an, 0-8, scoring run to take set two, 6-25, putting them in front 2-0 in the match.
The Lady Falcons opened up set three on an, 0-3 scoring run, before Sims sent a serve sailing out of bounds. Bushland responded, as Howell delivered a kill in the back corner to make the score, 1-4, that play sparked a four-point scoring rally for the Lady Falcons, that ended when Bownds dropped in a tip for a kill, making the score, 2-7.
A save at the net by Hanlin landed out of bounds for the Lady Cats, sparking another six-point rally for Bushland, forcing Littlefield to take a time out trailing the Lady Falcons, 2-13. Out of the break, Ornelas sent a kill sailing out of bounds, but Bushland responded quickly, as a kill from Hatfield was tipped out of bounds by Hanlin, making the score, 3-14.
Bushland strung together three straight points, before Culpepper sent a serve sailing out of bounds to make the score, 4-17. Sims was blocked by Hernandez but the ball landed out of bounds, making the score, 4-18. Amiah Elizondo was called for touching the net, but Hanlin answered on the next play, as she dropped a kill inside the back line to trim the lead to, 5-19.
Bushland would close out set 3 on a, 1-6, scoring run to take the set, 6-25, and the match, 0-3.
