The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team dropped their regular season finale on Tuesday falling to the Childress Lady Cats, 0-3.
With the loss, the Lady Cats close out the regular season with a record of 17-15 overall, 2-6 in district play.
Faith Foster opened set one with a kill for Childress, but Madi Williams answered with a kill between Angelica Torres and Kaydence Simpkins to tie the set, 1-1. Cali Saldana sent a kill sailing out of bounds and Avery Keys followed it up with a tip off of Myli Hernandez for a kill to push the Childress lead to, 1-3.
Emma Jalomo sent a serve short of the net for Childress, but Littlefield couldn’t capitalize, as a save by Cobi Saldana didn’t make it over the net on the next play, making the score, 2-4. Bryndle Ray set a ball up that was tipped over the net by Cobi Saldana for a kill and Bri Valdez followed it up with an ace off of Simpkins to tie the set, 4-4.
A save by Hernandez on the next play made it over the net, but landed out of bounds to give the serve back to Childress. Ava Everage dropped in a tip for a kill and Simpkins followed it up with a tip over Maggie McNeese for a kill, stretching their lead to, 4-7. Hernandez had a hit land out of bounds on the sideline, before a save by Everage landed out of bounds on the sideline for Childress, making the score, 5-8.
Simpkins regained the serve, as she dropped in a tip for a kill, and Foster followed it up with a kill of her own to extend their lead to, 510. A tip by Everage had a tip dug out by Tailyn Gomez, but none of her teammates played the ball, making the score, 5-11. Simpkins served up an ace off of Cali Saldana, pushing the lead to, 512, as Littlefield took a time out to talk things over.
Out of the break, Childress was called for a double-hit and on the next play, Foster sent a hit sailing out of bounds to trim the lead to, 7-13. Everage dropped a kill between Valdez and Gomez, but Littlefield answered, as Cali Saldana dropped in a tip off of Addi Edmondson for a kill, making the score, 8-13.
Cali Saldana sent a hit into the net for Littlefield and her following hit sailed out of bounds, stretching the lead back out to, 815. Cali Saldana would respond, dropping a kill between Torres and Edmondson, but Williams sent a hit into the next play and Childress followed it up with an ace on the sideline by Jalomo, making the score, 9-17.
Simpkins had a tip land out of bounds on the sideline for Childress and Journey Prince hit the foul pole with a hit on the next play, trimming the lead to, 11-17. Prince sent a hit into the net, but on the next play, Williams had a hit land out of bounds on the sideline to end the rally, making the score, 12-18.
Childress would rally for four points before Prince sent a tip short of the net and Keys sent a hit into the net, trimming the lead to, 14-22. A hit by Hernandez on the next play made it over the net but landed out of bounds, however the hit from Everage on the next play sailed out of bounds, making the score, 15-23. McNeese delivered a kill off of the block attempt from Simpkins, but Everage answered with a kill, before sending a hit out of bounds on the next play to make the score, 17-24.
She was called for a double-hit on the next play, but a hit from Cali Saldana fell short of the net making the score, 18-25, as Childress went up, 1-0 in the match.
Childress opened up set two on an, 0-3 run before sending a tip out of bounds, making the score, 1-3. A save by Madi Brown fell short of the net forcing a four-hit call on Littlefield. Cobi Saldana answered with a kill off of the block attempt by Prince, but on the next play, McNeese was called for being on the net, making the score, 2-5.
Keys was called for a doublehit, but Everage sent a kill past Hernandez, pushing their lead to, 3-6. Cobi Saldana delivered a kill in front of Simpkins block attempt, but Everage responded with a kill off of Gomez to make the score, 4--7. Cali Saldana dropped in a tip for a kill, but Everage again dropped in a tip for a kill off of Nevaeh Lopez, sparking a five-point rally for Childress. Williams sent a kill past Aubrey Douglas to trim the lead to, 6-12, but it was short-lived, as Prince tipped the net for a kill to make the score, 6-13.
Prince sent a hit into the net for Childress and a tip by Sophie Stephens didn’t make it over the net, trimming the lead to, 8-13. Williams had a hit blocked by Prince, but the ball landed out of bounds for a Littlefield point. Cobi Saldana kept it going with a kill off of Torres, cutting the lead to, 1013, as Childress took a time out to try and slow down Littlefield’s building momentum.
Out of the break, Foster delivered a kill off of Gabby Medina, but the serve from Jalomo on the next play landed out of bounds, making the score, 11-14. Prince delivered a kill off of Valdez, but her next serve fell short of the net, making the score, 12-15. Simpkins had a kill attempt land out of bounds on the sideline, but Everage delivered a kill off of Valdez, pushing the lead to, 13-16.
Everage was called for being on the net on the next play, but she dropped in a tip for a kill to regain the serve for Childress, sparking a six-point rally, that ended with a serve out of bounds by Simpkins, making the score, 15-22. Cali Saldana sent a kill past Everage, but Ray’s next serve landed out of bounds, stretching the lead to, 1623.

Jalomo and Medina each sent a serve out of bounds and Simpkins sent a hit short of the net on the next play, making the score, 3-8. Everage delivered a kill off of the block attempt by McNeese and Valdez sent a hit short of the net, making the score, 3- 10, as Littlefield took a time out to talk things over.
Out of the break, a hit from Childress fell short of the net, but the followed serve from Teagan Miller did not make it over the net, stretching the lead to, 4- 11. Everage delivered a kill off of McNeese’s block attempt, but Douglas’ serve landed out of bounds on the next play trimming the lead to, 5-12.
Foster delivered a kill off of the block attempt by McNeese, but Lopez answered with a kill off of Addie Baize and Prince sent a tip into the net on the following play to cut the lead to, 7-13. Foster was called for touching the net, but she responded with a kill at the net off of a long dig from Ray to make the score, 8-14. Lopez sent a tip past Douglas for a kill, but a tip from Hernandez fell short of the net sparking a three-point rally for Childress making the score, 9-17.
Foster and Medina each sent a serve out of bounds and Cobi Saldana sent a hit out of bounds on the sideline to make the score, 10-20. Taegan Carroll sent a serve out of bounds on the sideline for Childress, but Valdez was called for a double-hit on the next play, making the score, 11-21. A hit by Cobi Saldana was killed at the net by Everage, but Hernandez responded with a kill through the block attempt of Everage, making the score, 12-22.
Everage had a hit land out of bounds on the sideline for Childress, but she answered with a tip over Lopez for a kill on the next play, making the score, 13-23. Childress was called on the next on the next play and a hit from Carroll landed short of the net, but Childress would go on to close out the set, as Lopez sent a hit into the net for Littlefield and a dig by Cali Saldana went under the net giving Childress the set, 15-25, and the match, 0-3.
The Lady Cats will clash with Bushland on Monday, Nov. 4th at Hereford High School.
The first set is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
