The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team fell to the Bushland Lady Falcons last week in the Class 3A Bi-district round of the play-offs, 0-3, at Hereford High School.
In set one, Berklee Billington opened the scoring with a kill for the Lady Falcons and a kill attempt by London Taylor sailed out of bounds, pushing Bushland’s lead to, 0-2. Cobi Saldana was called for a lift on the next play, but the rally ended when Morgan Eberly sent a serve out of bounds, making the score, 1-3.
Billington dropped a tip over the block attempt by Maggie McNeese for a kill, but McNeese answered with a kill of her own to make the score, 2- 4. Bushland was called for an illegal front row attack, the next serve from Kamila Silveira landed out of bounds, making the score, 3-5.
Dani McCampbell was blocked by Taylor and McNeese for a kill, but the next serve from Taylor fell short of the net, making the score, 4- 6. Jaida Scott served up three consecutive aces for Bushland and Laynee Adams followed it up with a kill off of Faith Balderas, stretching the lead to, 4-10.
Scott served up another ace in front of Madison Williams, as Littlefield took a time out to talk things over. Out of the break, Scott served up an ace off of McNeese, before Nevaeh Lopez answered with a kill off of the block attempt by Brynleigh Koenig and Addison Graves, trimming the lead to, 5-12.
Koenig and Graves scored back-to-back tips for the Lady Falcons, but Bushland was called on the net to end the rally, making the score, 6-14. Lopez was called for being on the net, but Bushland couldn’t capitalize, as Graves sent a hit into the net to make the score, 7-15.
The Lady Falcons would regain the serve after Billington delivered a kill off of Saldana’s block attempt to make the score, 7-16. Taylor answered with a kill off of Bushland, but the next serve from Williams fell short of the net, stretching the lead to, 8-17.
Adams delivered a kill off of a long dig by Saldana and McNeese was called on the net during the next play, extending the lead to, 8-19. Adams was blocked by Saldana, but the ball landed out of bounds for a Lady Falcons’ point and McCampbell followed it up with a kill at the net, before Billington’s serve sailed out of bounds, making the score, 9-21.
Jory Clark had a hit blocked by Taylor and a hit by McNeese was hit out of bounds by Clark, trimming the lead to, 10-21. Clark was called on the net for Bushland, but the Lady Falcons would close out the set with four consecutive points to take set one, 11-25.
Lopez opened set two with a kill for Littlefield, but Taylor was called for a double hit on the next play to tie the set, 1-1. Taylor sent a hit out of bounds on the next play, but the Lady Falcons could not capitalize, as Billington sent a serve short of the net, keeping the set knotted up at, 2-2. Some miscommunitcation by Bryndle Ray and McNeese resulted in a Bushland point, but Clark would sent a serve short of the net, making the score, 3-3. Silveira sent a serve sailing out of bounds for Littlefield and Scott served up an ace off of McNeese, pushing their lead outt o, 3-5.
Adams would score back- to- back kills for Bushland, before Taylor delivered a kill off of the block attempt by Adams to make the score, 4-7. Adams would answer with a kill off of Williams, sparking a ninepoint rally, that ended when McNeese delivered a kill off of the Bushland block attempt, making the score, 5-16.
Billington delivered a kill off of the block attempt by Lopez, but Williams answered with a kill off of the block attempt by Clark, trimming the lead to, 6-17. Ray sent a tip into the net, but she responded with a dump for a kill on the next play to make the score, 7-18.
Bushland was out of alignment on the serve from Lopez, but Lopez’s next serve would land out of bounds, as Bushland would go on to close out the set on a, 1-6, scoring run to take set two, 9-25.
Bushland opened set three on an, 0-3, scoring run, before Ray dropped in a dump for a kill making the score, 1-3. Williams served up an ace off of Adams, but her next serve fell short of the net, making the score, 2-4. A kill by McNeese was hit into the net by Bushland, but the Lady Falcons would recover, as Clark dropped a tip in the middle of the Littlefield defense for a kill to make the score, 3-5.
Bushland delivered backto- back kills off of Williams, before Taylor dropped a kill on the back row past Clark, trimming the lead to, 4-7. Balderas sent a serve short of the net and McNeese sent a kill sailing out of bounds, before Graves delivered a kill off of Balderas to make the score, 4-10. McNeese tipped the net for a kill past Koenig and Adams followed it up with a kill, sparking a six-point rally to make the score, 516, as Littlefield took a time out.
Out of the break, Adams and Ray each sent a serve off of the mark and Saldana was called on the net during the next play, pushing the lead to, 6-18. Billington delivered a kill between McNeese and Balderas, but she sent a tip into the net on the next play, trimming the lead to, 7-19.
Lopez served up an ace in front of Kena Reed, but Graves answered with a kill on the back line, making the score, 8- 20. Bushland would close out the set on a, 2-5, scoring run to take set three, 10-25, and the match, 0-3, as Littlefield’s season came to a close.
