Lady Cats drop tough match to Childress, 0-3

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball dropped a tough match on the road Tuesday night, as they fell to the Childress Lady Cats, 0-3.

With the loss, the Lady Cats fall to 1-4 in district play.

Childress opened up set one on an, 0-3, run, before Mattie Seymore delivered a kill off of Harley Carrasco to gain the serve for Littlefield. Avery Keys sent a kill sailing out of bounds for Childress, but Journey Prince answered with a kill on the sideline to regain the serve for Childress with the score, 2-4.

Cobi Saldana mistimed a hit sending it into the net for Littlefield and Prince followed it up with a kill on the sideline to stretch their lead to, 2-6. Keys sent a serve sailing out of bounds and Saldana followed it up with a kill past Ava Everage’s block attempt making the score, 4-6. Everage answered with a kill that was tipped at the net by Littlefield, but Saldana answered, as she sent a kill off of the block attempt by Everage, trimming the lead to, 5-7.

Maggie McNeese delivered a kill in front of the block attempt from Kinley Galligan, but the next serve from Kamila Silveira landed short of the net to make the score, 6-8. Everage delivered a kill off of the dig attempt by Saldana, but on the next play, a dump by Saldana was hit into the net by Childress, trimming the lead to, 79, as Littlefield regained the serve.

Madison Williams was called for being on the net and Everage served up back-to-back aces before sending a serve sailing out of bounds, extending their lead to, 8-12. Emma Jalamo delivered a kill off of Silveira and Littlefield was out of position on the next serve giving the point to Childress, making the score, 8-14. Prince delivered a kill and Nevaeh Lopez was called for being on the net, stretching the lead to, 8-16.

Kealee Bussey delivered a block on Prince, but London Taylor sent a hit into the net on the next play, making the score, 9-17. A tip from Williams was tipped out of bounds by Sara Davis, but a kill from Prince would spark a seven-point rally, that ended when Everage was called for being on the net during a tip. Childress was called for four hits on the next play and Prince ran into the pole on the following play to trim the lead to, 13-24. Lopez sent a serve short of the net to close out the set, as Childress took set one, 13-25.

The Lady Cats would bounce back in set two, as the opening serve from Jalamo fell short of the net. Carrasco sent a hit out of bounds on the sideline for Childress and Faith Balderas served up an ace off of Galligan on the next play to push their lead to, 3-0. McNeese delivered a kill at the net off of a block attempt by Prince, forcing Childress to take a time out to talk things over.

Out of the break, Balderas served up an ace off of Addi Edmondson and Saldana followed it up with a kill past Galligan, stretching their lead to, 6-0. Balderas kept the rally going with an ace off of Edmondson and McNeese followed it up with a kill past Galligan to extend their lead to, 8-0.

Prince ended the rally with a kill on the sideline and Seymore was blocked on the next play by Prince and Keys for a kill to cut the lead to, 8-2. Childress would claw their way back into the set to tie it up, before Carrasco sent a serve out of bounds making the score, 9-8. Silveira served up backto- back aces and Childress was called for four hits on the following play to make the score, 12-8.

Bussey had a hit blocked by Prince for a kill and a bad set by Silveira was hit under the net by McNeese, trimming the lead to, 12-10. Keys had a serve land out of bounds for Childress, but the would score three consecutive points to make it a one-point game, 13-12. McNeese dropped a kill just inside the back boundary line to end the rally, and Childress was called for a doublehit on the next play, making the score, 15-12.

Bussey had a kill attempt land out of bounds on the sideline and Edmondson served up an ace off of Saldana to cut the lead to one point, 15-14. Carrasco was called for being on the net for Childress and Bryndle Ray served up an ace off of Jalamo, pushing the lead back out to, 17-14. Carrasco was blocked by Lopez and the cover hit from Carrasco landed out of bounds, but the next serve from Ray sailed out of bounds, making the score, 18-15.

Williams was blocked by Keys and Jalamo for a kill and Everage tipped the net for an ace, before her next serve landed out of bounds, making the score, 19-17. Williams served up an ace off of Jalamo, as Childress took a time out to talk things over. Out of the break, Williams’serve landed out of bounds and two plays later, Prince tied it up with a kill past Balderas to make the score, 2020.

The teams with back-and-forth until a hit from Balderas fell short of the net and Everage followed it up with a kill on the sideline to take set two, 24-26.

Littlefield jumped out to a big lead in set three after Prince was blocked by McNeese for a kill and Taylor followed it up with a kill in front of Edmondson. McNeese kept it going with a kill off of the dig attempt by Jalamo and Prince sent a kill attempt sailing out of bounds to make the score, 4-0. Littlefield would score again, before McNeese was called on the net, making the score, 5-1.

Littlefield would regain the serve, scoring back-to-back points, before Childress took a time out to talk things over. Out of the break, Prince delivered a kill off of Williams and Williams was called for a lift on the next play, trimming the lead to, 7-3.Ahit from Bussey hit the foul pole, but McNeese answered by dropped a tip in the back corner for a kill, pushing the lead to, 8-4.

Prince delivered a kill past Saldana and Littlefield was called for four hits on the next play, before Prince sailed a serve out of bounds, making the score, 9-6. McNeese served up an ace off of Jalamo, but Everage answered with a tip over Lopez for a kill, cutting the lead to, 10-7.

Childress sent back-to-back hits off the mark, before Lopez was blocked by Everage for a kill, trimming the lead to, 12-8. Lopez was called on the net, but Williams responded with a kill off of the block attempt by Jalamo to push their lead back out to, 13-9. Jalamo deliverd a kill in front of Williams, but the next serve from Jalamo landed short of the net to make the score, 14-10.

Balderas served up an ace off of Galligan and Taylor followed it up with a kill on the sideline to push their lead back out to, 16-10. McNeese kept it going with a kill past Jalamo, as Childress took another time out to talk things over. Out of the break, Balderas sailed a serve out of bounds, sparking a five-point rally, that forced Littlefield to take a time out with their lead cut to, 17-15.

Out of the break, Davis sent a serve sailing out of bounds, but Prince answered with a kill past Williams to trim the lead to, 18-16. Prince was called on the net on the next play and Saldana followed it up with an ace off of Galligan, pusing the lead back out to, 20-16. Prince was called on the net again for Childress, but she answered with a kill between Balderas and Saldana on the next play to trim the lead to, 21-17.

McNeese was called for being on the net for Littlefield and Prince followed it up with an ace off of Saldana, making the score, 21-19. Everage kept it going with a kill in front of McNeese’s block attempt, but Prince sent a serve out of bounds on the next play, making the score, 22-20.

Childress would bounce back to tie the set, 23-23, after Jalamo delivered a kill off of Saldana on the sideline, as Littlefield took a time out. Out of the break, Edmondson tipped the net for an ace and Everage followed it up with a kill in front of the block attempt from Lopez, making the score, 23-25.

The Lady Cats were at Idalou on Saturday to take on the Lady Cats. Results were not available at press time. They will be home on Saturday to take on the Shallowater Fillies for their second match-up of the year.

First set is scheduled for 6 p.m.
