The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity softball team dropped game one of their Class 3ADI Bi-district play-off series to Bushland on Friday, 17-2, at Lady Cat Softball Field.
Amaya McCanick pitched five innings for the Lady Cats, giving up 12 hits, five walks and 17 runs, 13 earned, while earning five strikeouts.
In the top of the first inning, Kylee Jordan doubled through the left side, before Zaylee Wilson struck out looking for out number one. Chayney Snelson, would clear the bases with a two-run homerun to left field to put the Lady Falcons in front, 2-0.
AddisonAppier drew a walk and Hope DeWald was hit by a pitch, before McCanick got Piper Francis to strike out looking for out number two. With runners on second and third, Kami Albus chopped out to Brianna Aleman at third base to retire the side.
The Lady Cats couldn’t get anything going in the bottom half of the first inning, as Bryndle Ray popped up toAlbus at second base for out number one. Sophia Mata drew a walk, but Isaihla Garza hit a short fly to Albus at second base for out number two. McCanick would ground out to Appier at third base to end the inning.
Mattee Rehkopf hit a bleeder up the middle, but Lilly Downey flew out to Mata in shallow center field for out number one. Jordan hit a low liner off of the glove of Ray at shortstop and the runners advanced to second and third on a pitch, before, Wilson flew out to Ray in shallow left field for out number two.
Snelson ripped a two-RBI double to left-center field to extend their lead to, 4-0, but on a bad throw back to the pitcher, Snelson tried to score from second, but was thrown out at the play by Peyton Galvan, as Hannah Lopez was there for the tag to retire the side.
In the bottom of the second inning, Maggie McNeese hit a grounder to Albus at second base, who bobbled the ball and threw to first. McNeese was initially called out, but after Coach O challenged the call, a discussion amongst the umpires determined that McNeese was safe at first to give the Lady Cats a base runner.
McNeese would steal second on a wild pitch, and on a ball four passed ball toAleman, McNeese stole third to put runners on the corners with no outs. Lopez struck out looking for out number one and Abby Rodriguez hit a soft liner to Albus at second base for out number two.
Aleman took second on a passed ball, before Tailyn Gomez struck out swinging to end the inning.
Appier opened the third inning with a solo homerun to leftcenter field for Bushland and DeWald drew a walk to give the Lady Falcons a base runner with the score, 5-0. Francis ripped an RBI-double off of the right-center field fence to push their lead to, 6-0, before, Albus hit a sacrifice grounder to McNeese at first base, who got the out at first, as Francis advanced to third on the play.
Rehkopf was hit by a pitch to put runners on the corners for Busland, and she took second on a pitch, before Downey grounded out to McCanick in the circle, who got the out at first for out number two. Jordan hit a shot off of the glove of McCanick in the circle, but Ray was there for the back-up as she picked it up and fired to first for the out to retire the side.
In the home-half of the third, Ray lined out to Francis in rightcenter field for out number one and Mata chopped out toAlbus at second base for out number two. Garza singled to right field and McCanick hit a chopper over Snelson at shortstop to give the Lady Cats a pair of base runners, but McNeese would chop out to first base to end the inning.
Wilson hit a shot to Ray deep in the hole at shortstop and beat the throw to first to give Bushland a base runner to begin the fourth inning. She took second on a pitch, before Snelson andAppier drew backto- back walks to load the bases. DeWald was hit by a pitch to bring in a run, making the score, 7-0.
Francis hit into a fielder’s choice to Ray at shortstop, who got the force out at third, as a run scored to stretch the lead to, 8-0. Albus had a hit to rightcenter field dropped by Mata to bring in a run and make the score, 9-0, and Rehkopf followed it up with a two-RBI double off of the left-center field fence to push the lead to, 11-0.
Downey kept it going with an RBI-double to right-center field, and Jordan hit a sacrifice grounder to McNeese at first base, who got the out at first as Downey advanced to third on the play with two outs. Downey scored on a passed ball to push their lead to, 13-0, before Wilson struck out swinging to retire the side.
Aleman flew out to Francis in center field to begin the bottom of the fourth for Littlefield, but Lopez was hit by a pitch and she took second and third on wild pitches, before Rodriguez drew a walk to put runners on the corners. Lopez would score on a passed ball, as Rodriguez advanced to second on the play, trimming the lead to, 13-1.
Rodriguez took third on a passed ball, before Gomez chopped out to first base for out two. Ray blasted an RBI-single off of the right-center field fence, but was thrown out by Francis trying for second base to end the inning, with Bushland in front, 13-2.
McCanick got Snelson to strike out swinging to begin the fifth inning, but Appier drew a walk to give Bushland a base runner. DeWald struck out looking for out number two, but Appier would take second on a passed ball, before Francis dropped in an RBI-single over first base to extend their lead to, 14-2.
Albus hit a shot to right field that was missed by Galvan for an RBI-double pushing their lead to, 15-2. Rehkopf blasted a two-run homerun off of the scoreboard to stretch their lead to, 17-2, before Downey flew out to Galvan in right field to retire the side.
Mata drew a lead-off walk to begin the bottom of the fifth inning for Littlefield, and she took second on a pitch, before Garza grounded out to Albus at second base, who got the out at first, as Mata advanced to third with one out. McCanick popped up toAppier in foul territory at third base for out number two and McNeese grounded out to end the game.
