The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team dropped their district-opener on the road on Saturday against Lubbock-Cooper Liberty, 0-3.
With the loss, the Lady Cats fall to 13-8 overall, 0-1 in district play.
The Lady Cats were trailing, 1015, when Campbell Beeler delivered a kill off of the block attempt by Taryn Golden, sparking a sixpoint rally, before Taelyn Salines sent a serve sailing out of bounds, making the score, 11-21. Madi Heider delivered a kill in front of Myli Hernandez and Golden, to regain the serve, pushing their lead to, 11-22.
Beeler sent a hit into the net, but Bri Valdez’s serve was short of the net, making the score, 1223. A kill attempt by Abby Dallas sailed out of bounds for Liberty, but the Lady Cats again couldn’t capitalize, as Kennadi Hanlin sent a serve sailing out of bounds, making the score, 13-24. A tip by Amiah Elizondo was dug by Katelyn Glen but it landed out of bounds, trimming the lead to, 1424.
Liberty would close out the set on the next play, as Braylee Barron delivered a kill in front of the block attempt by Julie Bownds, making the score, 14-25.
Jacelyn Gestes sent a serve outside the foul pole to open set two and Dallas mistimed a dig at the net to put the Lady Cats in front, 2-0. Barron answered with a kill and Kennedy Ezel followed it up with back-to-back aces off of Hanlin to put the Lady Patriots in front, 2-3. Lainey Gibson sent a kill past Madi Brown and the Lady Cats were called for four hits on the next play, pushing the lead to, 2-5.
A dig by Hanlin floated over the net, but landed out of bounds, as the Lady Cats took a time out to talk things over. Out of the break, Ezel sent a serve out of bounds on the sideline to make the score, 3-6, but Gibson answered with a kill off of Bryndle Ray, sparking a three-point rally for the Lady Patriots.
Salines sent a serve short of the net and Beeler followed it up with a kill that landed out of bounds, trimming the lead to, 5-9, but Liberty would respond, as Heider sent a kill past Cali Saldana to make the score, 5-10. A kill attempt by Bownds sailed out of bounds and a tip on the next play by Ray landed out of bounds on the sideline, making the score, 5-12.
Gestes was called for a doublehit on her set, but Ellison Roberts tipped the net for a kill and she followed it up with a kill past Ray to push their lead to, 6-14. A tip by Hernandez was hit out of bounds by Katelyn Glenn, but Liberty would rally for four points to make the score, 7-18, as Littlefield took another time out.
Out of the break, Liberty was called for being over the net, but Roberts answered with a kill off of Hanlin to make the score, 8-19. Liberty would close out the set on a, 2-6, scoring run to take set two, 10-25.
Liberty opened set three on an, 0-4, run, before Maggie McNeese delivered a kill off of Gestes to trim the lead to, 1-4. A kill in the back corner by Baylee Fillingham sparked another four-point rally for Liberty, before Bownds delivered a kill that was tipped out of bounds by Gestes, making the score, 2-8.
Golden sent a hit into the net and Beeler delivered a kill off of Kamryn Jimenez, before Fillingham sent a kill sailing out of bounds, making the score, 3-10. Liberty would go on an, 0-11, scoring run, before a hit by Ray was tipped out of bounds by Salines, making the score, 4-21.
Glenn came across the net on a set for Liberty, but a kill by Beeler on the next play was tipped out of bounds by Littlefield, making the score, 6-22. Roberts sent a kill past Valdez and Alyssa Ferguson served up an ace to make the score, 7-24. McNeese kept the Lady Cats alive with a kill, but on the next play, Dallas delivered a kill off of Hernandez to close out the set, 7-25, as Liberty took the match, 0-3.
The Lady Cats were at Idalou on Tuesday. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season on Friday with a home game against Tulia.
First set is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
