The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team cruised past the Loop Lady Horns last Saturday, 3-0; 25-18, 25-16 and 25-18.
With the win, the Lady Cats improve to 15-9 overall on the season.
Madi Brown opened up the match with back-to-back aces and Bryndle Ray set Myli Hernandez up for a kill, as she delivered a hit in the back corner for a point, making the score, 3-0. Hernandez’s next hit sailed out of bounds, but the Lady Cats responded, as Ray set Cali Saldana up for a kill to stretch the lead to, 4-1.
The Lady Horns delivered a kill in front of Alyssa Torres, but their next hit hit the foul pole, pushing the lead to, 5-2. Loop would answer with a kill, but it was shortlived, as their next serve fell short of the net, extending the lead to, 6-3. A return on the serve from Hernandez fell short of the net and Bri Valdez set Cobi Saldana up for a kill to stretch the lead to, 8-3.
A hit from Cali Saldana was dug out by Loop, but floated over the net and landed out of bounds for a Littlefield point. Hernandez served up back-to-back aces, as Loop took a time out to talk things over. Out of the break, Valdez was called for a double-hit, but the Lady Cats would fire right back, as Nevaeh Lopez dropped in a tip for a kill, making the score, 12-4. A dig by Valdez hit the net, but a kill by Cali Saldana was hit backwards out of bounds by Loop, making the score, 13-5.
Ray sent a serve short of the net, sparking a three-point rally for Loop, before they sent a serve out of bounds, making the score, 148. Brown followed it up with backto- back aces, but the short rally was ended with a kill by Loop to make the score, 16-9. The Lady Horns served up an ace off of Cali Saldana, before sending their next serve short of the net to make the score, 17-10.
The teams went back-and-forth before Maggie McNeese delivered a tip for a kill to make the score, 19-13. The play sparked a five-point Littlefield rally, that ended when Lopez was blocked for a kill to cut the lead to, 24-14. Loop would rally for four points, before Littlefield took a time out to talk things over and out of the break, the serve from Loop landed out of bounds, as the Lady Cats took set one, 25-18.
Brown got the Lady Cats off to a, 4-0, start ins et two, before Madi Williams hit the foul pole with a hit to make the score, 4-1. Williams sent a hit into the net off of a dig by Ray, and Hernandez sent a kill sailing out of bounds to make the score, 4-3. But, Loop couldn’t keep it going, as they sent a hit into the net, turning the serve back over to Littlefield.
A kill from Hernandez landed out of bounds on the sideline, but Loop’s next serve fell short of the net, making the score, 6-4. Cobi Saldana delivered a kill off of one of the Loop blockers, but on the next play, Valdez was called for a double-hit, making the score, 7-5. McNeese dropped in a tip over the Loop blockers for a kill, but the Lady Horns answered with a kill in the back corner and they followed it up with an ace off of Gabby Medina, slicing the lead to, 8-7.
McNeese won a tip battle at the net for a Littlefield point and Loop hit the foul pole on the next play, making the score, 10-7. The Lady Horns would deliver a kill in front of Torres and a kill attempt from Cali Saldana landed out of bounds on the sideline, cutting the lead to, 10-9. the Lady Cats would respond, as McNeese bumped a ball up into the air for Cali Saldana who put it down with a kill to regain the serve for Littlefield.
Ray set Monica Elizondo up for a kill, before her next serve fell short of the net, trimming the lead to, 12-10. Loop had a tip land out of bounds and Brown followed it up with an ace, as the Lady Horns took a time out to talk things over. Out of the break, Loop was called for a foul and Cali Saldana dropped in a tip for a kill to push the lead to, 16-10.
The Lady Horns would answer with a kill in front of Brown, but they sent a hit into the net on the next play, making the score, 17-11. Cobi Saldana sent a hit out of bounds and Ray was called for a double-hit, before a hit from Cobi Saldana on the next play was hit out of bounds by Loop, pushing the lead to, 18-13.
The Lady Cats couldn’t keep the rally going, as Cali Saldana sent a hit out of bounds and Loop followed it up with an ace to cut the lead to, 18-15. Cali sent a hit into the net, but she would respond on the next play with a kill to make the score, 19- 16, as Littlefield went on a, 6-0, scoring run to close out set two, 25-16, going up 2-0 in the match.
Loop jumped out to, 1-3, lead in set three, before Hernandez delivered a kill to regain the serve for Littlefield. The Lady Horns lead would grow to, 3-6, before a hit from Cobi Saldana was tipped out of bounds by the Lady Horns. A long break by Loop was killed at the net by Elizondo and Hernandez followed it up with back-to-back aces before sending a serve short of the net to make the score, 7-7.

McNeese delivered a kill for the Lady Cats and Valdez served up an ace before Hernandez sent a hit out of bounds on the next play, making the score, 17-13. Hernandez responded with a kill inside the back boundary line, but Loop answered with a kill off of the block attempt from Elizondo, making the score, 18-14. McNeese had a kill blocked by Loop, but the ball landed out of bounds for a Littlefield point, however, Loop would regain the serve on the next play as they sent a kill past Elizondo, trimming the lead to, 1916.
Hernandez sent a hit into the net, prompting Littlefield to take a time out, and out of the break, Valdez set Cali Saldana up for a kill to push the lead to, 20-17. Cali Saldana followed it up with a kill and the Lady Horns were called for a double-hit on the next play to make the score, 22-17. Loop delivered a kill off of Brown, but their next serve landed out of bounds on the sideline, stretching the lead to, 23-18. Brown served up an ace and a hit from Loop on the next play went into the net, as Littlefield took set three, 25-18, and the match, 3-0.
The Lady Cats opened district play with a road contests against Idalou on Saturday. Results were not available at press time. They will continued district play on Tuesday with a home game against Shallowater.
