The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity softball team swept the season series with the Dimmitt Bobbies on Saturday, taking game two, 28-0, in three innings.
With the win, the Lady Cats improve to 6-1 in district play.
Amaya McCanick started in the circle for the Lady Cats pitching one inning, earning two strikeouts. Maggie McNeese pitched two innings, earning five strikeouts, as they pitchers combined for a no-hitter.
Bryndal Ray drew a leadoff walk to get the first inning going for the Lady Cats and Sophia Mata was hit by a pitch to give Littlefield a pair of base runners. The runners advanced to third and second on a passed ball and three pitches later, Ray scored on an error by Rosas behind the plate, as Mata advanced to third on the same play, making the score, 1-0.
McCanick drew a walk and stole second on a pitch, before McNeese reached on a dropped third strike that got by Rosas behind the plate, allowing Mata to score and McCanick to advance to third, leaving runners on the corners with the lead pushed to, 2-0. McNeese stole second on a pitch, before Brianna Aleman drew a walk to load the bases.
Abby Rodriguez hit a ground ball to second base and reached on an error, as McCanick and McNeese scored and Aleman advanced to second, stretching their lead to, 4-0. Aleman and Rodriguez advanced to second and third on an error by Rosas behind the plate, before Hannah Lopez drew a walk to re-load the bases for Littlefield.
Aleman scored on a passed ball, as Rodriguez and Lopez advanced to third and second, extending the lead to, 5- 0, and Tailyn Gomez walked to load the bases again for Littlefield. London Taylor hit a shot to left field for a two-RBI double, pushing their lead to, 7-0, with runners on second and third and no outs.
Ray hit a fly ball to left field, reaching base on an error by Lopez, as two more runs scored, landing Ray on second with the score, 9-0. Ray advanced to third on a wild pitch, before Mata was thrown out at first on a dropped third strike for out number one. Ray scored on the play to make the score, 10-0.
McCanick drew a walk and stole second on a pitch, before McNeese grounded out to Terrazas at second base for out number two, as McCanick took third on the play. Aleman grounded out to Lara in the circle to retire the side.
McCanick got Salinas to strike out swinging to begin the bottom half of the first inning, but Rosas was hit by a pitch to give the Bobbies a base runner. McCanick would recover, as she got Terrazas to strike out swinging and she got Venzor to pop up to McNeese at first base to end the inning.
Rodriguez drew a lead-off walk to begin the second inning, and she stole second on a pitch, before Lopez followed it up with a hard grounder to third, reaching on an error by Enriquez, as Rodriguez score and Lopez pulled into second base with the score, 11-0. Gomez laid down a bunt that was fielded by Lara, who got the out at first, as Lopez advanced to third with one out.
Taylor was hit by a pitch and stole second to put two runners in scoring position for the Lady Cats. Lopez would score on a passed ball, as Taylor advanced to third on the play, pushing their lead to, 12- 0. Ray ripped a line drive to left field for an RBI-double, stretching their lead to, 13-0. Ray would score on an error by the catcher behind the plate, before Mata drew a walk, pushing their lead to, 14-0.
Mata stole second, before McCanick doubled on a line drive to right field to bring in a run and extend their lead to, 15-0. McNeese hit a fly ball to right field and reached on an error putting runners on the corners for Littlefield and Aleman drew a walk to load the bases. Rodriguez grounded into a fielder’s choice to shortstop, as Dimmitt got the out at second, as McCanick scored and McNeese advanced to third, making the score, 16-0, with two outs.
Lopez kept the rally going with a two-RBI double to center field to score McNeese and Rodriguez, making the score, 18-0, and Gomez followed it up with a line drive to left field, as Lopez scored from second to extend the lead to, 19-0. Taylor and Ray were both hit by pitches to load the bases, and a few pitches later, Gomez would score on a passed ball to stretch the lead to, 20-0. Taylor was called out for leaving the base early to retire the side.
McNeese relieved McCanick in the circle, as she go Martinez and Navarro both to strike out swinging and she got Lara to strike out looking to end the inning.
Terrazas relieved Lara in the circle for Dimmitt to begin the third inning, as Mata, McCanick and McNeese were walked to load the bases for Littlefield. Aleman walked to bring in a run, making the score, 210, and Rodriguez reached on an error by Lara at firs base, as McCanick and McNeese scored and Aleman advanced to third and Rodriguez to second with the score, 23-0.
Peyton Galvan grounded out to Terrazas in the circle, as Aleman scored and Rodriguez advanced to third with one out, pushing the lead to, 24-0. Gomez hit a ground ball to third and reached on an error by Enriquez, as Rodriguez scored to make the score, 25-0. Gomez took second on an error by Lopez at second base, before Janella Rodriguez struck out swinging for out number two.
Ray doubled to drive in Gomez and she would take third on a passed ball, before Mata walked to put runners on the corners. Mata stole second and two pitches later, Ray would score on a passed ball, as Mata advanced to third to make the score, 27- 0. McCanick drew a walk and stole second, before Mata scored on a passed ball to make the score, 28- 0. McCanick was called out for leaving the base early to retire the side.
In the bottom of the third, the Bobbies’ lead-off batter, would ground out to McNeese in the circle, before Medina struck out swinging and Salinas struck out swinging to end the game.
The Lady Cats hosted Shallowater on Tuesday for their second meeting with the Fillies. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season on Friday with a road game against Idalou.
First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
