The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team opened the second half of district play on Saturday at Idalou, where they fell to the Lady Cats in straight sets, 0-3.
With the loss, the Lady Cats fall to 18-11 overall, 1-4 in district play.
Littlefield senior, Madison McNeese, opened up set one with a kill off of the block attempt from Emma Clawson, but Idalou responded, as Paige Harder delivered a kill off of junior, Kennadi Hanlin, tying the set, 1-1. Freshman, Bryndle Ray, was called for a double hit and Harder served up an ace off of Hanlin to put Idalou in front, 1-3.
Clawson tipped the net with a hit for a kill, but Harder’s next serve was short of the net, trimming the lead to, 2-4. Littlefield sent a hit out of bounds, but the following serve by Clawson sailed over the back boundary line, making the score, 3-5. Hailey Van BeeKum sent a kill past Hanlin in the back row, but Sabrina Mills’serve on the next play fell short of the net, making the score, 4-6.
Idalou scored back-to-back points, before a kill by McNeese was tipped out of bounds by Idalou, giving the serve back to Littlefield. Mills landed across the net on a set for Idalou, but senior, Kaeleigh Logan’s next serve fell short of the net, making the score, 7-9. Hanlin sent a hit out of bounds on the next play, but Idalou, on the following play was called for four hits, after Clawson’s hit didn’t make it over the net, trimming the lead to, 8-10.
McNeese sent a kill into the net, but she answered with a kill off of the block attempt by Harder, cutting the lead to, 9-11. A hit by Julie Bownds landed out of bounds for Littlefield, but Idalou couldn’t capitalize, as Harder’s next serve fell short of the net, making the score, 10-12. After an Idalou kill, Sarah Pirtle sent a hit out of bounds, but Littlefield couldn’t get a rally going, as a kill from Van BeeKum was tipped out of bounds by Littlefield, pushing their lead back out to, 12-14.
Van BeeKum followed it up with an ace from the serve line and Bri Valdez was called for a double hit on the next play, stretching the lead to, 12-16. IsabelleArguello scored back-to-back kills for Idalou, forcing Littlefield to take a time out, trailing, 12-18. Out of the break, Bownds sent a kill past Mallory Perez, but Idalou answered, as Van BeeKum delivere a kill off of the block attempt from McNeese, making the score, 13-19.
Idalou would close out set one on a, 1-6, scoring run to take the set, 1425.
Van BeeKum opened set two with a kill over Mylie Hernandez and Bownds’ block attempt, but a hit by Kyndal Edgemon on the next play was tipped out of bounds by Aniston Patschke, tying the set, 1-1. Idalou scored back-to-back points, before sending a hit out of bounds to make the score, 2-3 and a tip on the next play by Maddie Holmes landed out of bounds to tie the set, 3-3.
Logan had a tip fall in for a kill, but Holmes answered with a tip for a kill on the next play for Idalou to keep the set tied, 4-4. After a few back-andforths, Idalou took a three point lead, but a tip by McNeese was hit out of bounds by Gali Alvidrez, making the score, 8-10.
McNeese, though, sent a hit sailing out of bounds on the next play and Harder followed it up with an ace on the back line for Idalou, pushing their lead out to, 8-12.Atip by Edgemon landed on the sideline for a kill and Hernandez delivered a kill off of the block attempt by Clawson, trimming the lead to, 10-12. Idalou though, would go on a, 4-0 scoring run, before Pirtle sent a hit out of bounds, making the score, 11-16.
Pirtle had a hit blocked by Bownds and on the second try, Pirtle was called for a double hit, cutting the lead to, 12-16. Littlefield couldn’t capitalize, as Valdez’s serve sailed out of bounds and Idalou followed it up with a kill from Van BeeKum, past Bownds’ block attempt to extend their lead back out to, 12-18.
Senior, MyKenzie Price, delivered a kill in front of the block attempt by Arguello, but Pirtle answered with a kill off of Hanlin to make the score, 1319.Akill attempt by Edgemon landed out of bounds on the sideline and a hit by Price on the next play was outside the foul pole, pushing the Idalou lead to, 14-21.
McNeese delivered a kill in front of Alvidrez and Edgemon followed it up with a kill off of Patschke, before Idalou scored a point on the next play, making the score, 16-22. Littlefield would respond, as Harder was blocked by McNeese and Hernandez for a kill, but Idalou came right back with a tip for a kill to make the score, 17-23.
Ahit by VanBeeKum was returned by Edgemon, but landed out of bounds, making the score, 17-24. Bownds delivered a kill off of Patschke and Hernandez followed it up with a kill between Holmes and Patschke, cutting the lead to, 19-24. Clawson sent a kill out of bounds, as Idalou took a time out to talk things over, and out of the break, Van BeeKum’s kill attempt sailed out of bounds cutting the lead to three points, 21-24. However, the Littlefield comeback attempt fell short, as Van BeeKum delivered a kill in front of Hernandez and Bownds to end the set with Idalou taking set two, 21-25.
Holmes’ serve fell short of the net to open set three for Idalou, but McNeese also sent a serve short of the net, tying the set, 1-1. Idalou took the lead on a hit into the net by Edgemon, but Bownds would tie things up on the next play, as she tipped the net for a kill. The teams exchanged several points before Logan tipped the net for a kill, making the score, 5-4. McNeese sent a kill past Perez and Logan scored a kill on a missed dig by Perez, pushing the Littlefield lead to, 7-4.
Van BeeKum delivered a kill over the block attempt from McNeese and Logan, but McNeese answered with a tip over Arguello for a kill, stretching their lead to, 8-5. Idalou would rally back and tie the set, 8-8, after Patschke tipped the net for an ace, but Littlefield answered on the next play, as Edgemon tipped the net for a kill on the next play, making the score, 9-8.
Ray’s serve fell short of the net and Clawson delivered a kill off of Hernandez to put them in front, 9-10. However, it was short-lived, as McNeese delivered a kill off of Giovanna Payan to tie the set, 10-10. McNeese served up an ace, before sending her next serve short of the net, keeping the set tied, 11-11. Clawson and Bownds exchanged kills, before Idalou went on a, 0-7, scoring run to stretch their lead to, 12-19.
Clawson sent a serve short of the net, but Idalou came right back, as Pirtle delivered a kill past McNeese to push their lead to, 13-20. A hit by Logan fall short of the net and Arguello delivered a kill over McNeese to stretch the lead to, 13-22. Littlefield would cut the lead to, 17-24, as Pirtle was blocked by McNeese and Edgemon for a kill, but Idalou would close it out on the next play, as Harder delivered a kill over Valdez to end the set, 17-25, and the match, 0-3.
The Lady Cats hosted Tulia on Tuesday for their second match-up with the Lady Hornets. Results were not available at press time. They will continue district play on Saturday with a road game against Childress.
First set is scheduled for 12 p.m.
