The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team fell at home on Tuesday to the Idalou Lady Cats, 0-3; 18-25, 18-25 and 17-25.
With the loss, the Lady Cats all to 16-13 overall, 1-4 in district play. The Lady Cats jumped out to an early lead in set one, as Madi Brown served up back-to-back aces and a hit from Myli Hernandez was returned short of the net by Paytonn Spann, making the score, 3-0. Brown sent a serve short of the net to end the rally for Littlefield, but they would quickly regain the serve, as Cobi Saldana tipped the net with a hit for a kill, pushing their lead to, 4-1.
Hernandez delivered a kill in front of the block attempt by Brianna Fishback, but Sarah Pirtle answered with a kill to make the score, 5-2. Campbell Ross was called for a double-hit on her set, but Idalou would regain the serve, as Pirtle delivered a kill, making the score, 6-3.
Hernandez delivered a kill off of Ross, but Idalou again responded, as Karsyn Lutrick dropped in a tip and a double-hit was called on Bri Valdez, making the score, 7-4. Kambrie Roye delivered a kill off of Valdez and Pirtle followed it up with an ace off of Valdez, slicing the lead to, 7-6. Three plays later, Idalou would tie the set, 8-8, after a kill sailed out of bounds from Maggie McNeese.
Hadley Underwood sent a kill sailing out of bounds and Bryndle Ray followed it up with an ace, stretching the Littlefield lead back out to, 10-8. Underwood answered with a kill for Idalou and Ray sent a tip out of bounds for Littlefield. However, Lutrick would sent a serve short of the net, giving the serve back to Littlefield with the score, 11-10.
Hernandez sent a kill past Pirtle and Jayci McKinney had a dig land out of bounds, extending Littlefield’s lead to, 13-10. A few plays later, Idalou would again tie the set, 14-14, after a tip from Underwood fell in for a kill. The teams exchanged points, before Roye dropped in a kill, sparking a three-point rally for Idalou, forcing Littlefield to take a time out to talk things over.
Out of the break, Hernandez delivered a kill off of the block attempt by Pirtle and Lutrick, trimming the Idalou lead to, 16-18. Roye sent a kill attempt sailing out of bounds and Hernandez followed it up with an ace off of Underwood to tie the set, 18-18, but Idalou would rally for seven consecutive points to take set one, 18-25.
Madi Williams delivered a kill off of Lutrick to open set one and Pirtle was called for a double-hit to make the score, 2-0, before Cobi Saldana sent a hit into the net, making the score, 2-1. Hernandez fired back with a hit that was tipped out of bounds by Ross, but on the next play, some miss-communication by Brown and Williams resulted in an Idalou point, making the score, 3-2.
Ray was called for a double-hit and Pirtle delivered a kill off of Brown, sparking a four-point Idalou rally, that ended when Fishback and Roye were called for being on the net. Valdez served up an ace off of Fishback and Pirtle sent a kill sailing out of bounds, making the score, 6-7.
Valdez served up an ace just inside the back boundary line to tie the set, 7-7, and McNeese followed it up with a kill in front of Fishback’s block attempt to give Littlefield the lead, 8-7. A doublehit was called on Underwood to make the score, 9-7, as Idalou took a time out to talk things over. Out of the break, Pirtle delivered a kill off of Brown and Hernandez sent a hit into the net to tie the set, 9-9.
Valdez had a tip land out of bounds on the sideline, but McKinney sent a serve short of the net, keeping it tied, 10-10. Nevaeh Lopez won a tip battle at the net with Ross, but Pirtle answered with a kill off of Hernandez to tie the set once more, 11-11. The teams went back-and-forth until Underwood delivered a kill off of Gabby Medina to make the score, 12-13, sparking a four-point rally, prompting Littlefield to take a time out to talk things over, trailing, 1216.
Out of the break, Spann’s serve sailed out of bounds, but Idalou answered, as Lutrick delivered a kill off of Ray to make the score, 13-17. Cobi Saldana sent a hit into the net and Heidi Gentry sent a kill off of Brown, pushing the Idalou lead to, 13-19.
Lutrick’s serve fell short of the net and Underwood sent a hit short of the net on the next play, trimming the lead to, 15-19. However, Gentry, on the next play, delivered a kill off of Brown and Pirtle had a hit dug out by Brown, but it was killed at the net by Fishback, making the score, 15- 21, as Littlefield called for another time out.
Out of the break, Hernandez delivered a kill off of the block attempt by Fishback, but Underwood followed it up with a tip at the net for a kill, pushing the lead to, 16-22. Idalou would close out the set on a, 2-3, scoring run to take set two, 18-25.
Idalou jumped out to a, 1-4, lead to start set three, but Littlefield would rally back to make it a onepoint game, 3-4, after a kill attempt from Underwood sailed out of bounds. Roye delivered a kill in front of Valdez and Lutrick delivered a kill off of Monica Elizondo, before Pirtle was called on the net during a block attempt, making the score, 4-6.
Littlefield would again rally back to make it a one-point game, 7-8, after Gentry sent a hit sailing out of bounds. Idalou would recover, as Medina sent a serve short of the net and Spann served up an ace off of Medina, making the score, 7-10. Spann served up another ace, before sending her next serve short of the net, making the score, 8-11.
Littlefield would not be able to recover in the set, as they fell to Idalou, 17-25, losing the match, 03.
The Lady Cats were on the road Saturday to take on Shallowater. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season on Tuesday when they host Tulia for senior night.
First set is scheduled for 6 p.m.
