The Littlefield Lady Cats’ came back on the road on Tuesday to take down the Roosevelt Lady Eagles, 4-2.
With the win, the Lady Cats improve to, 3-2 overall on the season.
After a scoreless first inning for both teams, the Lady Cats went three-up-and-three down in the top of the second inning. Cadence Sanchez got Kat Rodriguez to strike out looking to begin the bottom half of the second inning, but Jalyssa Benavides ripped a solo homerun over the center field fence to put the Lady Eagles up, 1-0.
Cadence Sanchez got the next two batters to strike out swinging to end the inning.
Mylie Hernandez got the Lady Cat offense going in the top of the third, as she led off the inning with a solo homerun to right field, tying the game, 1-1. Mykenzie Price followed it up with a double. Cadence Sanchez followed it up with an RBI single to center field to put the Lady Cats in front, 2-1. Bryndle Ray struck out looking and Cadence Sanchez was caught stealing to retire the side.
Mendoza drew a lead-off walk to start the bottom of the third inning for Roosevelt, but Cadence Sanchez got Lilli Soto to strike out swinging for out number one. Mendoza stole third and then scored on the next play, as Myra Salazar singled through the left side, tying the game, 2-2.
Paige Davis singled on an error by Ray at second base, and Rodriguez singled on a dropped fly ball by Price in center field, but the Lady Cats were able to get the force out at second for out number two. Benavides struck out looking to end the inning for the Lady Eagles.
Natalia Sanchez opened the fourth inning with a lead- off double to left field, but Taryn Golden flew out to Davis in left field, allowing Natalia Sanchez to tag up and take third with one out. Alex Hernandez flew out to Davis in left field, but Natalia Sanchez was able to tag up and score to put Littlefield back on top, 3-2. Kaeleigh Logan struck out swinging to retire the side.
The Lady Cats recorded two quick outs in the bottom of the fourth, as Niaissa Saldana popped up to Logan in foul territory and Violette Crawford lined out to Price in center field for out number two. Cloud and Mendoza drew backto- back walks for the Lady Eagles, but Soto flew out to Ray at second base to end the inning.
Both teams went scoreless through the fifth and sixth innings, but in the top of the seventh, Cruz hit a one-out single to left field and Price hit a line drive to center field for an RBI-double to extend their lead to, 4-2. Cadence Sanchez would fly out to Rodriguez at shortstop and Ray popped up to Mendoza behind the plate to retire the side.
The Lady Cats defense shut down the Lady Eagles in the bottom of the seventh to take the contest, 4-2, on the road.
Cadence Sanchez pitched a complete game giving up two runs and three walks, while earning eight strikeouts.
Price led the Lady Cats at the plate going 3-4 with a single, two doubles and one RBI, while Hernandez went 1- 3 with a homerun and one RBI. Cadence Sanchez was 2-4 with a single, a double and one RBI, while Cruz went 2-3 with two singles.
Natalia Sanchez was 1-3 with a double and Hernandez went 1-3 with a single and an RBI.
