The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity softball team went 4-2 at the West Texas Classic in Midland, picking up wins over Stanton, Kermit, Pecos and Presidio and falling to Dumas and Floydada.
The Lady Cats improve to 4-7 overall on the year.
In their tournamentopener last Thursday, the Lady Cats took down Stanton, 14-2.
Amaya McCanick pitched four innings for the Lady Cats, giving up one walk, while earning nine strikeouts. Maggie McNeese pitched one inning, giving up four hits and two runs, while earning one strikeout.
The Lady Cats shutout Stanton through the first four innings, while posting two runs in the bottom of the first, one run in the second inning, three runs in the third inning and eight runs in the fourth inning.
Stanton scratched two runs in the top of the fifth, but it was not enough, as the Lady Cats run- ruled Stanton, 14-2.
The Lady Cats had eight hits as a team and nine walks at the plate.
Hannah Lopez led the Lady Cats with a triple and two walks, while Tailyn Gomez added a double and a walk and McNeese tallied a double, a walk and an RBI. Brianna Aleman contributed two hits including a double and one RBI, while Bryndle Ray added a hit and two walks.
Abby Rodriguez drew two walks at the plate, while Sophia Mata added a hit and an RBI, and McCanick contributed one hit, one walk and one RBI. Peyton Galvan finished with one RBI in the contest.
In their second game against Dumas, the Lady Cats stumbled, falling, 120.
McCanick threw two innings in the circle, giving up six hits, six walks and 12 runs, six earned, while earning one strikeout. McNeese threw three innings, giving up two hits and five walks, while earning one strikeout.
The Demonettes jumped out in front early, pushing two runs across in the top of the first inning, six in the second inning and four in the third innings, to take the contest, 12-0.
Ray, McCanick, Aleman and Galvan each recorded a hit in the contest.
In their first game on Friday, the Lady Cats took down Kermit, 14-2.
Littlefield scratched a run in the top of the first inning, holding a one-run lead until the top of the third inning, when they were able to push four more runs across. Kermit answered in the bottom half of the inning with two runs to trim the lead to, 5-2.
The Lady Cats would add one run in the fifth inning and eight runs in the six inning, while shutting out Kermit over the final three innings to take the contest, 14-2.
McCanick pitched a complete game, throwing six innings in the circle, giving up six hits, one walk and two runs, while earning eight strikeouts.
The Lady Cats posted 10 hits and seven walks at the plate as a team, led by Aleman who had two hits, including a homerun and two RBI’s. Rodriguez had two hits, including a triple, one walk and two RBI’s, while Ray added two hits, including a double, two walks and one RBI.
Mata added three RBI’s, while McNeese chipped in one walk and two RBI’s and McCanick, Gomez, Taylor and Lopez each added a hit int the contest. Lopez also had an RBI and one walk.
In their fourth game of the tournament, the Lady Cats wrapped up play on Friday night with a, 7-6, victory over Pecos.
Littlefield jumped out in front early with two runs in the top of the first inning. That lead stood until the third inning, when they added four runs to make the score, 6-0. However Pecos answered with two runs in the bottom half of the third to cut the lead to, 6-2.
Littlefield added one run in the top of the fifth, but Pecos closed the gap with four runs in the bottom of the fifth, before falling short, as the Lady Cats edged the Lady Eagles, 7-6.
McCanick threw three innings, giving up four hits, two walks and two runs, one earned, while earning two strikeouts. McNeese pitched two innings, giving up four hits and four runs, while earning two strikeouts.
At the plate, the Lady Cats earned five hits and five walks, led by McNeese who posted a double and an RBI. Aleman tallied a double and two walks, while McCanick added two hits and two RBI’s.
Rodriguez drew two walks, while Ray added a hit and Mata contributed a walk and an RBI. Lopez added two RBI’s and Gomez finished with one RBI in the contest.
On Saturday, the Lady Cats opened things up with a, 15-0, shutout victory over Presidio, before falling to Floydada, 21-6.
Against Presidio, the Lady Cats pushed two runs across in each of the first two innings, before adding five runs in the third inning and six in the fourth inning to earn the run-rule victory, 15-0.
McCanick threw a no-hitter in four innings for the Lady Cats, giving up one walk, while earning six strikeouts.
McCanick led the Lady Cats with three hits, including a homerun and three RBI’s, while Lopez added two hits, including a home run and a double and two RBI’s, and McNeese tallied a triple and a double and one RBI.
Mata had two doubles and an RBI, while Ray chipped in one hit and two RBI’s and Isaihla Garza added oe hit and one RBI. Gomez finished with three hits including a double.
In their loss to Floydada, The Lady Winds jumped out in front early with four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Littlefield would battle back to make it a one run game in the top of the second inning, but the Lady Winds answered with five runs in the home-half of the inning, stretching their lead to, 9-3.
Littlefield added three runs in the top of the third, but Floydada would explode for 12 runs in the bottom half of the inning to run rule the Lady Cats, 21-6.
McCanick pitched one inning, giving up five hits and nine runs, four earned, while McNeese pitched 1.1 innings, giving up one hit, four walks and seven runs, four earned. She also had one strikeout. Mata pitched 0.1 innings, giving up four hits, one walk and five runs, one earned.
At the plate the Lady Cats earned three hits and five walks. Mata led the way with a homerun and four RBI’s, while McCanick tallied a double and Gomez added a double and two RBI’s. Lopez, Garza, Aleman, Rodriguez and Ray each had a walk in the contest.
The Lady Cats will be back in action this upcoming weekend in Sundown. Games are TBA. They will open District play on March 3rd at home against Dimmitt.
First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
