The Sudan Hornets’ varsity baseball team walked off with a non-district victory on Wednesday over the Lubbock Titans, 1413.
With the win, the Hornets improve to 12-5 overall, 5-1 in district play.
The Titans scratched a run across in the top of the first inning, before adding four runs in the third inning, one in the fourth and three in the top of the fifth to stretch the lead to, 9-0, going into the home-half of the fifth.
Sudan’s offense would explode for 12 runs in the bottom half of the fifth to take the lead, 12-9. The Titans would push two runs across in each of the last two innings to take a, 13-12, lead into the bottom of the seventh, but in the final half inning, Sudan would score two runs, as Jesus Salas was hit by a pitch to bring in the winning run, as the Hornets walked it off, 14-13.
The Hornets as a team tallied 10 hits and 10 walks, led by Trent Wilson, who tallied one RBI, two hits including a triple and two walks. Cal Carter chipped in one hit for a triple, one RBI and one Walk, while Caleb Groetken drew three walks.
Jesus Salas tallied one hit, two walks and two RBI’s, while Kincaid Boehning, Derek Rosa and Jaibryn Ornelas each recorded a double.
Derek Rosa started on the mound for the Hornets giving up 10 hits, two walks and nine runs, three earned, while earning two strike outs. Jesus Salas picked up the save tossing two innings, while giving up three hits and four runs, one earned, while earning two strikeouts.
The Hornets will be back in action on Tuesday April 9th when they take on Hale Center.
First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
