The Sudan Hornets dropped a tough contest at home on Friday to the Smyer Bobcats, 41-38.
Smyer took a slim lead through the first quarter, 6-5, but outscored Sudan, 13-9, in the second frame to take a five-point lead, 19-14, going into the locker room at halftime.
Sudan would bounce back in the third quarter to outscore Smyer, 139, making the score, 28-27, going into the final quarter of play. However, in the fourth quarter, Smyer edged out the Hornets, netting 13 points to take the contest, 41-38.
Caleb Groetken tallied 14 points to lead the Hornets in scoring, while Tony Vargas chipped in nine points, and Sal Juarez and Derek Rosa each contributed four points. Marcello King tallied three points, while Ryan Huddleston and Jon Conley each finished with two points in the contest.
The Hornets were at New Deal on Tuesday to take on the Lions. Results were not available at press time. They will continue district play on Friday with a road game against Lockney.
Tip-off is scheduled for 6:15 p.m.
