Hornets stung by Farwell, 78-33

The Sudan Hornets’ varsity basketball team fell to the Farwell Steers on Friday, 78-33, in their first meeting of the season.

With the loss, the Hornets fall to 8-14 overall, 1-4 in district play.

Farwell came out hot out of the gates, pouring in 27 points in the first quarter to take a, 27-7, lead into quarter number two. Sudan netted 13 points in the second frame, but they trailed Farwell, 5120, going into the locker room at halftime.

Sudan tallied eight points in the third quarter and five points in the fourth quarter, as they fell to the Steers, 78-33.

Jaibryn Ornelas led the team with 25 points and eight rebounds. Aspen Reyher tallied six points and seven rebounds, while Marcello King finished with two points, two steals, one rebound and one assist.

The Hornets began the second half of district play on Tuesday with a road game against Bovina. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season on Friday with a home game against Olton.

Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
