Hornets open district play with win over Ralls, 15-2

The Sudan Hornets’ varsity baseball team opened district play with a road victory over Ralls, 15-2.

With the win, the Hornets improve to 1-0 in district play.

Caleb Groetken pitched a complete game on the mound for Sudan, throwing four innings, giving up six walks and two unearned runs, while earning 10 strikeouts.

Sudan pushed six runs across in the top of the first inning and added a run in the top of the second to make the score, 7--0. In the bottom half of the second, Ralls scratched a run across, but Sudan would answer with backto- back four spots, stretching the lead to, 151.

Ralls would add a run in the bottom of the fourth, but it was not enough to keep the game going, as Sudan run-ruled the Jackrabbits, 15-2.

At the plate, the Hornets tallied 10 hits and eight walks as a team, led by Groetken, who had a double, a walk and two RBI’s. Jason Bohler tallied one hit, one walk and three RBI’s, while Dylan Provence chipped in one hit and two RBI’s.

Kaine Carroll contributed two hits and one RBI, while Miles Ledbetter added two hits, one walk and one RBI. Sam Briseno tallied two hits and one RBI, while Kyler Edwards and Ryan Willougby each added one walk and one RBI. Haden Provence finished with one hits and two walks in the contest.

The Hornets were at home on Tuesday to take on Hale Center. Results were not available at press time. The will continue district play on Saturday with a road game against Hale Center.

First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
