Hornets go 2-1 at Highland Park baseball tournament

The Sudan Hornet’s varsity baseball team competed in a tournament at Highland Park in Amarillo this past weekend, where they went, 2-1.

The Hornets improved to 3-1 overall on the year.

In their first game on Friday, the Hornets defeated Claude, 24-1.

On the mound, Cal Carter pitched two innings, giving up two walks and one run, while earning four strikeouts.

At the plate, the Hornets combined for 17 RBI’s, 19 walks and eight hits.

Caleb Groetken was 3-3 with a walk, a double, a homerun and seven RBI’s. He also scored four times. Carter finished with one hit, three walks and two RBI’s while also scoring four times. Marcello King finished with two walks, a double and two RBI’s, while scoring three times.

Maximus Lopez, Dylan Provence, Eric Rosa, Jaibryn Ornelas, Kooper Edwards, Julian Salas and Jo Salas each recorded an RBI in the contest as well.

On Saturday, the Hornets fell in game one on the day against the Clarendon Broncos, 9-4.

On the mound, Haden Provence pitched four innings giving up four hits, four walks and seven runs, three earned, while striking out nine. Jo Salas pitched 0.2 innings giving up one hit, two walks and two runs, while striking out one batter.

At the plate, Groetken was 1-3 with a triple and scored twice, while Carter was 0-2 with a walk and an RBI, and Ornelas was 1-2 with a walk and a hit ans scored once.

Dylan Provence was 1-3 with a hit and two RBI’s, while Julian Salas was 0-3 with an RBI.

The Hornets closed out the weekend with a, 15-0, victory over Memphis, behind a no hitter from Groetken, who gave up one walk, while striking out eight batters.

At the plate, Ornelas was 1-4 with a double and two RBI’s. He also scored three times. Groetken and Carter combined for two RBI’s, while Groetken scored twice and Carter scored once. King accounted for two runs, while Dylan Provence was 1-2 with a hit, a walk and an RBI. He also scored twice. Haden Provence was 1-2 with a hit and a walk, driving in two runs. He also scored once as well.
