Hornets fall to Plains, 53-40

The Sudan Hornets’ varsity basketball team fell to the Plains Cowboys on Tuesday, 53-40.

With the loss, the Hornets fall to 4-6 overall on the year.

It was a tight game early on, with the Cowboys clinching a onepoint lead, 6-5, heading into the second quarter. However, in the second frame Plains poured in 18 points to stretch their lead to, 2415, going into the locker room at halftime.

The Hornets, though, would battle back in the third quarter, as they erupted for 21 points, slicing the lead to, 37-36, going into the final quarter of play. Plains would pull away in the fourth quarter, outscoring Sudan, 16-4, to take the contest, 53-40.

The Hornets were led by Jaibryn Ornelas, who tallied 19 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals, while Aspen Reyher chipped in 11 points, four rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block. Marcello King contributed six points, six rebounds and one assist, while Brian Delgado added two points and one rebound and Slade Nichols finished with two points, three rebounds and one assist.
