The Sudan Hornets saw their season come to an end on Friday night in Muleshoe, as they fell to the Farwell Steers, 41-20, in the Class 2A Division II Bi-district round of the Football Play-offs.
With the loss, the Hornets finish the season with a mark of 6-5 overall on the season.
The Hornets totaled 263 total yards, including 197 rushing yards and 66 passing yards.
Farwell jumped out in front in the first quarter, scoring the lone touchdown of the quarter with a one-yard rush, followed by the PAT to make the score, 7-0, heading into quarter number two.
In the second frame, quarterback, Jonathan Armstrong broke loose for a 36-yard rushing touchdown, followed by the PAT to stretch their lead to, 14-0. Sudan would respond, as Jaibryn Ornelas punched it in for a three-yard rushing touchdown, but the Hornets missed on the two-point conversion, leaving the score, 14-6.
Farwell would strike again on offense, as Armstrong connected with Andrae Pullen for a 33-yard touchdown through the air. The PAT was good, pushing the lead to, 21-6. The Steer’s defense would get in on the scoring, as Haden Provence was picked off by Hudson Agee, who returned it 60-yards to the house for the picksix. The PAT sailed through the uprights, making the score, 28-6.
Marcello King caught a fiveyard touchdown pass from Provence and Angel Martinez scored on the two-point conversion to trim the lead to, 28-14, going into the locker room at halftime.
In the third quarter, Coy Miller scored on a 28-yard touchdown run, but the PAT was no good, and Armstrong followed it up with a 12-yard run, that was followed with a PAT to extend the lead to, 41-14, going into the final quarter of play.
In the fourth quarter, King would score on a 32-yard touchdown run, but the Hornets failed on the two-point conversion, as Farwell went on to take the contest, 41-20.
Offensively, Provence finished the game 7-24 passing for 66 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions.
In the rushing attack, King led the way with 22 carries for 148 yards and one touchdown, while Ornelas tallied three carries for 21 yards and a score. Angel Martinez also carried it 16 times for 43 yards.
In the receiving game, Aybran Granados caught one ball for 23 yards, while Ornelas tallied two catches for 14 yards and Kooper Edwards hauled in one pass for 12 yards. Aspen Reyher contributed one catch for 12 yards and King caught two passes for five yards and one touchdown.
Defensively, Kincaid Boehning led the team in tackles with 11, including two for loss, while Kasen Kauffman chipped in nine tackles, three for loss, and Martinez contributed eight tackles. King, Michael Williams and Ornelas each added seven tackles, including four for loss.
