Hornets cruise past Crosbyton, 53-12

The Sudan Hornets’ varsity football team took down Crosbyton at home on Friday, 5312.

With the win, the Hornets improve to 5-3 overall, 2-1 in district play.

The Hornets totaled 536 yards of total offense, including 287 passing yards and 249 rushing yards.

Marcello King got the Hornets off and running in the first quarter with a two-yard rushing touchdown, but the PAT from Trent Wilson was no good, leaving the score, 6-0. The Hornets would followed it up, as Wilson hit Jaibryn Ornelas with a 75-yard touchdown strike through the air. The twopoint conversion pass from Wilson found Alan Flores for the score, to make the score, 14-0.

Later in the first quarter, Wilson would break loose for a 26-yard rushing touchdown, followed with the two-point conversion run by King to make the score, 22-0, as the first quarter came to a close.

Crosbyton got in on the scoring to open the second quarter, as they rushed for a one-yard score. The two-point conversion try was no good, leaving the score, 22-6. Wilson would get loose in the open field again, rushing for a 64yard touchdown run, but they missed on the two-point conversion try, leaving the score, 28-6.

Wilson would connect with Flores for a 64-yard touchdown pass, but they again missed on the two-point conversion, making the score, 34-6, going into the locker room at halftime.

In the third quarter, Ornelas would haul in a 78-yard touchdown pass from Wilson, but the PAT by Wilson was no good, leaving the score, 40-6. Later in the third, King would catch a 12-yard pass from Wilson, but Sudan would miss on the two-point conversion, sending the game into the fourth quarter with Sudan in control, 46-6.

King opened the fourth quarter scoring with a four-yard touchdown run and the PAT by Wilson was good, pushing their lead to, 53-6. Crosbyton would throw a 16yard touchdown pass, but missed on the two-point conversion, as Sudan took the contest, 53-12.

Wilson finished the game sixof- eight passing for 248 yards and four touchdowns, while also adding seven carries for 163 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.

King tallied 15 carries for 61 yards and two scores, while Caleb Groetken added three carries for 22 yards.

In the receiving game, Ornelas tallied two catches for 153 yards and two touchdowns, while Flores added one catch for 64 yards and a score. Kincaid Boehing had two catches for 39 yards, while Groetken contributed two catches for 19 yards and King added one catch for 12 yards and a score.

Defensively, Joel Williams tallied 10 tackles, six for loss, and a sack, while Kasen Kauffman chipped in 13 total tackles, two for loss and Flores added 12 tackles, one for loss. Ornelas finished with three tackles and two interceptions, while King added three tackles and one interception.

The Hornets will be at Bovina on Friday to take on the Mustangs as district play continues.

Kick-off is slated for 7 p.m.
