Fillies fall to Highland Park in Bi-district, 1-3

The Olton Fillies’ varsity volleyball team saw their season come to a close on Monday night in Friona, where they fell to the Highland Park Lady Horets, 1-3; 13-25, 25-17, 21-25 and 13-25.

With the loss, the Fillies finish the season with a mark of 17-17 overall, 5-4 in district play.

The Fillies dropped set one, 1325, falling behind 0-1 in the match, but in set two, Denisse Alvarado delivered a kill off of the block attempt by Layla Webster to put Olton in front, 1-0. Adrienne Struve dropped in a kill inside the back boundary line, but Kambri Ruiz’s next serve sailed out of bounds, making the score, 2-1.

A dig by Kaitlyn Avalos went unplayed by the Fillies, but Olton would recover, as Tessica Deanda stepped over the serve line to put the Fillies back in front, 3-2. Alvarado followed it up with an ace off of Aliyah Robinson and Highland Park tipped a ball out of bounds on the next play to extend the Olton lead to, 5-2.

Robinson tipped the net with a hit for a kill, but Olton responded quickly, as Amie Beelitz delivered a block and the dig by Dayami Marquez floated over the net, but landed out of bounds, making the score, 6-3.

A dig by Joeli Neusch floated over the net for a kill for the Lady Hornets, but Analise Ramage answered with a kill in front of Jade Flores to push the lead to, 7-4. The set went back-and-forth, as Flores delivered a kill in front of Avalos, but on the next play, a hit from Ariana Harton landed out of bounds on the sideline for Highland Park, stretching the lead to, 8-5.

Flores sent a kill sailing out of bounds and a block from Ramage and Ruiz on the next play was tippe out of bounds by Neusch, pushing the lead to, 10-5. Highland Park took a time out to talk things over, and out of the break, Taryn Smith slid into the referee stand on a save attempt, giving the point to Highland Park.

Alvarado sent a hit into the net, but Olton would regain the serve on the next play, as Deanda sent a hit out of bounds, making the score, 11-7. Ruiz set a ball up for Beelitz, who delivered a kill to make the score, 12-7, before she and Alvarado sent back-to-back hits sailing out of bounds. Ruiz sent a hit into the net to make it a twopoint game, but Ruiz would respond with a kill off of Abigail Boyd, making the score, 13-10.

Beelitz dropped a tip over Webster and Deanda for a kill, but Ruiz’s next serve fell short of the net, trimming the lead to, 14-11. Olton would come right back, as Ruiz set Struve up for a kill to regain the serve for the Fillies. Highland Park would not go away, as Boyd delivered a kill through the block attempt of Beelitz and Struve, but Beelitz answered on the next play with a kill off of Boyd, pushing the lead to, 16-12.

Robinson sent a kill attempt out of bounds, but Marquez followed it up with a tip off of a dig by Ruiz for a kill, making the score, 17-13. Kaybree Ramon sent a hit sailing out of bounds for Olton, but Webster’s serve on the next play sailed out of bounds, making the score, 18-14. A tip on the next play by Robinson didn’t make it over the net and, she sent another hit sailing out of bounds on the next play, prompting the Lady Hornets to take a time out, trailing Olton, 20-14.

Ramage delivered a tip off of Neusch for a kill and Robinson sent a hit sailing out of bounds on the next play, pushing the lead to, 2214. A save attempt by Flores landed out of bounds on the sideline, but Highland Park would answered with a kill off of Ramon, making the score, 23-15. Harton sent a serve short of the net, but the Lady Hornets would push for two points to make the score, 2417, before Ramage delivered a kill to close out the set, 25-17, evening the match, 1-1.

Olton started in an, 0-2, hole to begin set three, before Alvarado delivered a kill off of Bria Delgado to make the score, 1-2. Boyd would drop a tip off of the block attempt by Beelitz for a kill, sparking a three-point rally for the Lady Hornets, stretching their lead to, 1-5. Robinson sent a hit out of bounds to give the serve to Olton, but the Fillies were unable to capitalize, as Kendall Saylor delivered a kill to make the score, 2-6.

Beelitz would deliver a kill off of Flores, but Highland Park would answer with back-to-back points, as Olton took a time out, trailing, 3-8. Out of the break, Harton sent a serve short of the net and Struve served up an ace off of Neusch, trimming the lead to, 5-8.

Deanda sent a hit short of the net for Highland Park and Ramage followed it up with a kill in the back corner of the court for a kill, making the score, 7-8. A kill attempt by Smith landed out of bounds, but she responded with a kill off of Ryelan Geiser, making it a onepoint game, 8-9. Three-plays later, Ramage would tie the set with an ace off of Delgado, but it was short-lived, as her next serve sailed out of bounds, making the score, 10-11.

Robinson sent a tip over the net and Struve mistimed her dig, sparking a six-point Highland Park rally that ended when Alvarado delivered a block on Webster for a kill. Olton would fight their way back, as the Lady Hornets were called for four hits, making the score, 12-17. Beelitz sent a hit sailing out of bounds, but Boyd’s serve on the next play landed out of bounds and Alvarado followed it up with ana ce off of Delgado, making the score, 14-18.

Struve was blocked by Saylor for a kill, but Webster’s next serve fell short of the net, trimmingthe lead to, 15-19. Flores dropped a tip over Ramage for a kill, but Deanda was blocked by Smith for a kill and Smith followed it up with a kill off of Delgado and Saylor to cut the lead to, 17-20, as Highland Park took a time out to talk things over. Out of the break, a dig attempt by Smith landed out of bounds, but the Lady Hornets couldn’t capitalize, as Flores sent a hit into the net, giving the serve back to Olton with the score, 1821.

Deanda went for a kill off of a long dig by Smith, but the ball landed out of bounds for an Olton point and Ramage followed it up with a tip over Flores and Boyd for a kill making it a one-point game, 20-21. Alvarado was called for touching the net, but she answered with a kill to make the score, 21-22. Highland Park would rally for three points to close out the set, 21-25, taking a, 1-2, lead in the match.

Set four went back-and-forth early on, but Highland Park would run away with the set, 13-25, taking the match, 1-3.
