Fillies fall to Friona, 0-2, at Littlefield Tourney

The Olton Fillies varsity volleyball team opened tournament play at the Littlefield Tournament, falling to the Friona Squaws, 0-2; 14-25, 12-25.

With the loss the Fillies fall to 4-4 overall on the season, 0-1 in tournament play.

Friona jumped out to an, 0-2, lead in set one, before Kalajah Monroe delivered a kill that Yaselene Faudoa couldn’t dig, making the score, 1-2. Aubree Bunker answered with a kill off of Monroe, but the next serve from Mireyna Shelby fell short of the net, making the score, 2-3.

A long break from Friona off of the serve from DeniseAlvarado was called at the net by Amie Beelitz to tie the set, 3-3. But, Friona would respond, as Bunker delivered a kill off of the block attempt from Beelitz, sparking a six-point rally that was ended when Kitzy Welch sent a serve short of the net to make the score, 4-9.

A serve by Beelitz was hit into the net by Friona and on the next sequence, Beelitz’s serve was hit into the net by Ellie McGaughy, trimming the lead to, 6-9. Welch delivered a kill over the Olton blockers to regain the serve for Friona, stretching their lead back out to, 6-10. Ella McFarland served up and ace off of Kaitlyn Avalos, sparking a six-point rally that ended when Bunker sent a hit into the net, making the score, 7-16.

Analise Ramage delivered a kill off ofAubrey Schueler to make the score, 8-16, before a serve from Adriene Struve landed just over the back boundary line for a Friona point, making the score, 8-17. Friona would rally for three points before Bunker sent a serve short of the net to make the score, 9-20.

A hit from Monroe was tipped out of bounds by Schueler and Kambri Ruiz followed it up with an ace that was tipped out of bounds by McFarland, making the score, 11-20. Ruiz sent a serve short of the net and Ramage was called for touching the net on the next play, stretching Friona’s lead to, 11-22.

Ramage sent a hit into the net and Alvarado had a hit land out of bounds, making the score, 12-23. Beelitz would respond for Olton, tipping the net with a hit for a kill, but Monroe’s next serve fell short of the net, pushing the lead to, 13-24. A kill attempt from Welch landed out of bounds, but on the next play, Bunker delivered a kill off of Faudoa to make the score, 14-25.

In set two, Friona jumped out to a, 1-0, lead before McGaughy sent a serve short of the net to tie it up, 1-1. A kill by Angelica Reyes was dug out by Avalos, but Olton couldn’t play it off the net, as it fell in for a Friona point. Taryn Smith was called for being on the net, starting a three-point rally for Friona, prompting Olton to take a time out, trailing, 1-5.

Out of the break, McGaughy was called for a double-hit, but Friona quickly recovered, as Bunker sent a kill across the court to make the score, 2-6. Bunker followed it up with a kill off of Avalos, before Bunker was called for touching the net on the next play, trimming the lead to, 3-7. Friona answered with a kill from Faudoa, but Olton fired right back, as Monroe delivered a kill off of McFarland, making the score, 4-8.

Friona scored a kill, but on the next play, Alvarado had a hit hit out of bounds by Beelitz, making the score, 5-9. Each team sent a serve sailing out of bounds and Welch sent a kill past Monroe to make the score, 6-11. Friona couldn’t keep it going, though, as Welch’s hit went outside the foul pole giving the serve back to Olton.

Beelitz delivered a block for a kill, but Beelitz mistimed her hit on the next play, sparking a three-point rally that ended with a serve short of the net from Welch, making the score, 9-14. Bunker delivered a kill in front of Ciara Zermeno and Ramage couldn’t dig a ball off of the net on the next play, stretching the Friona lead to, 9-16.

A tip from Kaybree Ramon fell in for a kill, but Ramage was called for touching the net on the next play, making the score, 10-17. Stephanie Cruz was blocked by Ramage, but no one covered her as it fell in for a kill, extending the lead to, 10-18. Smith was called for being on the net for Olton, but McFarland’s next serve fell short of the net, making the score, 11-19.

Monroe sent a hit into the net and Bunker served up an ace in front of Beelitz to make the score, 11-21. Friona would close out set two on a, 4-1 scoring run to take set two, 12-25, and the match 2-0.
