The Littlefield girl’s doubles team of Julie Bownds and Chloe Sawyer qualified for Regionals last Monday at the District Tennis Meet, where they placed second overall.
In the First round the pair took down Brownfield, winning the first set, 6-4 and the second set, 6-2.
In the Second round the Pair lost to Muleshoe in What Coach Matthew Arce described as “an extremely tough game.” They lost the first set with Muleshoe, 4-6, but won the second set, 6-4. They would lose the final set, 4-6.
This placed them in the third place match the following day.
If Littlefield won the third-place match and Muleshoe won their next match, there was a chance for a playback match for second place, which meant that the pair still had a shot making it to Regionals.
In the third place match against Lamesa, the pair won both sets, 6-2. Muleshoe also beat their opponents for first place, forcing a playback match for second place against Denver City. The pair defeated the Fillies,6-2, in set one, and, 6-1 in set two to punch their ticket to Regionals.
The Regional Meet will take place at the Rose Park Tennis Center in Abilene on April 20th and 21st.
