Where Does My Help Come From?

( Note: This column is written by a different Littlefield pastor for the Leader-News each week. The columns are published on this page on Wednesdays.)

“I lift my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” Psalm 121:1-2 I have a question for you as we begin this New Year. That question is: Where do you look for help? Perhaps you look for help in your bank account. Well, I don’t know about you, but if I look there, I might get afraid!! Perhaps you look for help in the government. Well, If I did that I wouldn’t be afraid, I would be terrified!!! When the Psalmist wrote the verses above, the vision was of an army coming over the mountain to defend and protect him. Again, where do we look for help?

As we start the year of 2026 can I recommend you look for help from the only one that truly can and will love you and provide for you? Of course I’m talking about God the Father. God has given us so many promises in his word, but one of my favorites is “never will I leave you, never will I forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5. Knowing this, then I can look up the mountains of my situations and know or trust that God is there. So let’s look up in trust to God this 2026. Also, let’s look back. Look back at the last year and the years before that. If we take a little time and reflect, we will see that God has been with us providing the way for us in every situation. Perhaps some of those times were hard, but for sure, He brought us through! So, Let’s look back in gratitude! Thank you God for all that you have done and all that you provided in 2025 and the years before! You are so, so good to me!! Look back in Gratitude!!!

Finally, Let’s look forward in 2026 and the years beyond that with hope! Jesus is the living Lord, and He is coming back one day! Knowing this should give us great hope that no matter what we face, we face it with the knowledge that our God has won the victory already and that His Will shall be done! We hope for an abundant life that He promised here and now, and we certainly hope in the future life eternally with Jesus our Lord! So look forward in hope!

That’s it then. As we start 2026 let us look up to God in trust, look back in gratitude and look forward in hope! We certainly have been blessed, are blessed now, and will be blessed as we move forward!

Happy New Year!!
