PASTOR’S CORNER

What changes would You like to see in your Community ...

I would like to take a census and see what you think about your community. I lived in Littlefield for 26 years then I moved to Lubbock, but as a pastor I continue to come here.

A question that I would ask this beautiful community, why has the population gone down from 7,500 to 5,900. Two towns that are close to us whose population has gone up are Muleshoe and Post. This has not randomly happened. It would be good to ask the leaders of those communities and see what answer they give. I ask God not only that the town grows but before that we see good changes. Another thing is that there are so many empty buildings and they give an aspect of misery. This is my comment.

A mistake that a community can make is leaving all the work to the city leaders and the county. I understand that countries like Japan, the citizens are very patriotic, and take care of their communities. For example they do not throw paper in the streets or if you are drinking a soda, do you throw the empty can in the street? I ask you: What is your attitude? Whatever it might be it will extend to the new generation.

Let’s go to Proverbs 15:32 “Whoever ignores instruction despises himself, but he who listens to reproof gains intelligence”. The other scripture that I want to share is Hebrews 12:11 “Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby”.

If when you were an infant and were no well educated, it will be difficult but not impossible to educate yourself in good morals now that you are older.

This beautiful country has gone backwards so much in the conduct of its citizens, but don’t let this hold you back.

Be the example and I know many will imitate you. Begin in your house. Don’t forget the question: “what changes would you like to see in your community?” This challenge is difficult but not impossible.

Lord, I bless Lamb county, beginning with Littlefield.

God bless you (Editor’s Note: This column is written by a different Littlefield pastor for the Leader-News each week. The columns are published on this page on Wednesdays.)
