To the Patrons of Littlefield ISD:
The first seven weeks of school is in the books and I applaud our staff and students on a fantastic job! As we move into the month of October, please continue to push your child(ren) to do their BEST each day in the classroom. We are beginning to see gains in our student academic growth and it is imperative to keep the momentum going. The Primary campus had a “Family Reading Night” on Monday, September 27 that was a huge success with our students and parents. As I have stated earlier, READING is the key that unlocks many doors to a world of opportunities. Thank you, PARENTS, who took time out of their busy schedule to attend this worthwhile endeavor!
Littlefield Independent School District has “Reading Interventionists” at each campus. Nancy Sewell is our primary interventionist and has been in education 44 years. Kelli DeLoach is our elementary interventionist and is in her 27th year of education. In the junior high, Josie Trugillo was hired this year to be our interventionist and brings 30 years of experience. Delight Davis is our high school interventionist and has a total of 31 years of experience. As you can see, we have four “highly qualified” ladies who help our students on a daily basis develop proficient reading skills that will contribute to their overall academic growth. The interventionist also addresses specific needs and drills down to the “root cause” of the “what” and “why” students struggle to read. I am confident in these ladies as they work each day to promote an interest in READING. On behalf of Littlefield Independent School District, WE APRRECIATE YOU!
We will have a plaque dedication on Friday, October 8 at 10:00 in the Primary Cafeteria in memory of Marcelino Garcia Sr. Marcelino was a custodian for Littlefield Schools for 5 years and built a special relationship with our students and staff who loved him dearly. Unfortunately, Marcelino passed away in January of this year. The plaque symbolizes the importance of his time and effort in Primary and his unconditional love he had for our students and staff. The plaque will hang in the Primary hallway in his honor for his unwavering support and extreme loyalty to Littlefield Independent Schools.
There will be no school on Monday, October 11 as we celebrate Columbus Day. School will resume at regular time on Tuesday, October 12.
Our October 19 board meeting, will have Jeff Sellers on the agenda. Jeff is the CEO for “Schools on Target” and will be doing a safety and security audit for our District along with presenting the “Guardian Program” at our meeting in October. The purpose of the “Guardian Program” would allow certain staff members to carry a firearm during the school day. Prior to any staff member carrying, he or she would go through extensive trainings and will be evaluated to see if they qualify to carry a weapon. LISD will have a survey that will be available on Monday, October 4 regarding the “Guardian Program” on our school website and Facebook page. The survey is open to any patron in Littlefield, Texas and will run through Tuesday, October 12. Also, Parkhill Architectural Firm out of Lubbock, Texas will be with us in October to discuss their findings regarding the facilities assessment. The October 19 meeting will begin at 7:00 P.M. and I encourage you to attend. Again, if you have questions, please feel free to contact me at your convenience.
Good Luck to our Band as they compete in the Denver City Marching Festival on Saturday!
Good Luck to our student athletes in football, volleyball and cross country as they compete for LISD!
