Lady Cats take down lamesa, 2-0

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team won their first match of their Dual on Tuesday over the Lamesa Lady Tornadoes, 2-0.

With the win, the Lady Cats improved to 10-6 overall on the season.

Littlefield jumped out to a, 2-0, lead in set one, as Julie Bownds dropped in a tip for a kill and on the next play a tip by Nelly Dominguez landed out of bounds for Lamesa. Bri Valdez was called for a double-hit on her set to turn the serve over to Lamesa, and on the next play, the Lady Tornadoes were able to tie things up, as Taryn Golden sent a hit into the net, making the score, 2-2.

Lamesa would turn the serve back over to Littlefield, as Zoey Sifuentes was called for a doublehit on her set. Reagan Derington had a hit land out of bounds on the sideline for Lamesa, but a hit on the next play by Averie Crittendon was tipped out of bounds by the Lady Cats, trimming the lead to, 4-3.

Lamesa couldn’t capitalize on the play, as they were called for four hits on the next play, after a hit by Sifuentes didn’t make it over the net. The Lady Tornadoes would respond, as Crittendon tipped the net for a kill to cut the lead to, 5-4, however Bownds answered on the following play with a kill past Dominguez to make it a two-point game, 6-4.

Myli Hernandez sent a kill sailing out of bounds for the Lady Cats and on the next play, she was blocked by Sifuentes for a kill, tying the set, 6-6. Littlefield would answer on the next play, as Hernandez had a hit tipped out of bounds by Sifuentes to regain the lead for the Lady Cats, 7-6. It was short-lived, as Kennadi Hanlin was blocked by Sifuentes for a kill, but Lamesa couldn’t capitalize, as Maggie McNeese sent a kill past Sifuentes to regain the lead, 8-7.

McNeese followed it up with a tip over Jaiden Barrera for a kill and Hanlin kept the rally going with an ace in front of Derington, prompting Lamesa to call a time out to talk things over, trailing the Lady Cats, 10-7.

Out of the break Audrey Rivera delivered a kill in front of Madi Brown, but Lamesa sent a hit out of bounds on the next play, making the score, 11-8, as the serve went back over to Littlefield. A hit on the next play by McNeese landed out of bounds, sparking a four-point Lamesa rally, that saw them take the lead on a hit into the net by Bownds, forcing Littlefield to take a time out, trailing Lamesa, 11-12.

Out of the break, Dominguez sent a tip into the net to tie the set, 12-12, but Bownds was called for touching the net on the next play, putting Lamesa back in front, 1213. Dominguez sent a serve short of the net to knot the set, 13-13, but the Lady Cats again could not capitalize, as Hanlin was called for touching the net, making the score, 13-14.

Lamesa would score three consecutive

points, as their lead climbed to, 13-17, before Sifuentes sent a kill sailing out of bounds. A bad set by Sifuentes was hit out of bounds by Crittendon and Hanlin followed it up with a tip that Sifuentes couldn’t get to for the dig, making the score, 16-17. A carry was called on Lamesa during the next play to tie the set, 1717, as Lamesa took a time out talk things over. Out of the break, Hanlin delivered a kill off of Alyiah Morales to give Littlefield the lead, 18-17.

Hanlin had a tip blocked by Crittendon for a kill, but Fashaa Edwards sent a hit into the net for Lamesa on the next play, putting Littlefield back in front, 19-18. The Lady Tornadoes were called for an illegal front row attack, but on the next play, Hernandez lost a tip battle at the net with Edwards to trim the lead to, 20-19.

Sifuentes served up an ace in front of Hanlin and McNeese’s kill attempt on the next play sailed out of bounds, making the score, 2021. The Lady Cats would rally back, as Sifuentes’ next serve fell short of the net to tie the set, 2121. Hernandez dropped in a tip for a kill and Hanlin followed it up with an ace off of Barrera to make the score, 23-21. Sagen Hill was blocked by the Lady Cats and Meagan Hill couldn’t cover it for the dig and on the next play, a hit by Barrera sailed out of bounds, as Littlefield took set one, 25-21.

In set two, Crittendon was blocked by Golden for a kill and Bownds followed it up with a kill off of a long dig by Sifuentes to make the score, 2-0. Hernandez sent a serve sailing out of bounds to put Lamesa on the board and Dominguez followed it up with an ace off of Hanlin to tie the set, 2-2.

A hit by Bownds was to close to the net for Valdez to dig, giving Lamesa a brief, 2-3, lead, but it was short-lived, as Dominguez’s serve fell short of the net, tying the set, 3-3. Bownds answered with a kill off of the block attempt by Derington, but Hernandez sent a hit into the net on the next play, keeping the set tied, 4-4.

Lamesa could not capitalize, as a tip by Dominguez fell short of the net and on the next play, a hit sailed into the net from Crittendon, pushing the Littlefield lead to, 6-4. Hanlin had a tip blocked by Crittendon for a kill and Sifuentes followed it up with a kill off of Ray to tie the set, 6-6. Bownds sent a kill sailing out of bounds to give Lamesa the lead, but it would not last long, as Hill sent a serve short of the net, making the score, 7-7.

The teams exchanged points, and Valdez served up an ace off of Hill to put the Lady Cats in front, 9-8. Hernandez kept it going with a kill off of the set from Valdez and on the following play, Hill sent a hit out of bounds on the sideline, making the score, 11-8. Valdez’s return was returned short of the net by Dominguez, prompting Lamesa to take a time out to talk things over.

Out of the break, Lamesa would score back-to-back points to cut the lead to, 12-10, but Hanlin answered with a kill off of Rivera and she followed it up with an ace off of Hill to push their lead to, 14-10. Her next serve sailed out of bounds on the sideline, but Hill’s serve for Lamesa fell short of the net making the score, 15-11, as Littlefield regained the serve.

Bownds delivered a kill through the block attempt of Derington and Crittendon, a kill attempt on the next play by Hanlin landed out of bounds on the sideline, making the score, 16-12. Bownds answered with a kill off of Derington, but Lamesa came right back, as Sifuentes delivered a kill off of Brown to trim the lead to, 18-14.

A tip by Bownds fell in for a kill on the sideline and back-to-back hits by Lamesa landed out of bounds, stretching the lead to, 2114. Derington sent a hit out of bounds, but the Lady Tornadoes would answer, as a tip by Hill was hit out of bounds by Hernandez, trimming the lead to, 22- 15. Littlefield would close out the set, as Lyric Rios had a tip hit out of bounds by Edwards and Saldana followed it up with a kill off of Derington, pushing their lead to, 24-15. Dominguez sent a kill sailing out of bounds, as Littlefield took the set, 25-15, and the match, 2-0.
