The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity volleyball team dropped a close match to the Lubbock Christian Lady Eagles, 0-2, on Tuesday during their dual.
With the loss, the Lady Cats fall to 1-2 overall on the season.
LCHS opened set one on an, 03, scoring run, before Kat Dulin sent a serve out of bounds on the sideline making the score, 1-3. Reese Bruington responded with a kill for the Lady Eagles and Raegen Lee followed it up with a tip that was tipped at the net by Amiah Elizondo, before falling in for a kill, stretching their lead to, 1-5.
Julie Bownds dropped in a kill that Ellie Altman couldn’t get to on the dig to trim the lead to, 2-5, and a hit by Myli Hernandez on the next play was returned into the net by LCHS, cutting the lead to, 3-5. Emily Galbraith sent a hit short of the net and Bownds followed it up with an ace off of Altman to tie the set, 5-5.
Lee sent a hit sailing out of bounds to put the Lady Cats in front, 6-5, but it was short-lived, as Reese delivered a kill off of the set from Dulin to tie the set, 6-6. Hernandez responded with a kill off of Altman, but a hit from Bri Valdez was hit to close to the net for Hernandez to play, tying the set once more, 7-7.
Dulin had a kill blocked by Hernandez, but the ball landed out of bounds for an LCHS point, however, Hernandez would answer on the next play with a kill in the back corner to keep the set tied, 88. Dulin sent a kill into the net, but LCHS would recover, as Quinn Bruington dropped in a tip that Valdez couldn’t dig, making the score, 9-9.
Dulin delivered a kill, sparking a three-point rally for LCHS, before Addy Rogers was called for a double hit, after her initial hit didn’t make it over the net, trimming the lead to, 10-12. Dulin delivered a kill off of a block attempt from Bownds, sparking a four-point rally for the Lady Eagles, that ended when they were called for four hits, making the score, 11-16.
Dulin sent a kill past Taryn Golden, but Littlefield answered as Bownds sent a tip past Reese Bruington for a kill to trim the lead to, 12-17. A save by Maddie Brown made it over the net and was hit into the net by LCHS to cut the lead to, 13-17, and on the next play, Lee’s tip didn’t make it over the net, making it a three-point game, 14-17.
Littlefield would rally back, taking advantage of some LCHS miscues to tie the set, as Galbraith sent a tip into the net to make the score, 17-17, prompting LCHS to take a time out to talk things over. Out of the break, a tip by Dulin landed inside the back line for a kill and Altman followed it up with an ace off of Cali Saldana to make the score, 17-19.
Saldana sent a hit into the net and on the following play, a tip by Lee went out of bounds off of Brown to stretch the lead to, 1721. A kill by Reese Bruington was dug out by Bryndle Ray and sent over the net by Bownds and it was hit out of bounds by the Lady Eagles, trimming the lead to, 1821.
LCHS responded with a kill, but on the next play, Quinn Bruington was called for touching the net on a hit, making the score, 19-22. Lee had a tip float past Hernandez for a kill and Quinn Bruington followed it up with a kill at the net in front of Hernandez, making the score, 19-24. Tessa Watts had a serve fall short of the net, but on the next play LCHS delivered a kill off of Kamryn Jimenez to end the set, 20-25.
Dulin sent the opening serve in set two out of bounds, but Rogers responded for LCHS with a tip over Elizondo for a kill to tie the set, 1-1. the play sparked a fourpoint rally for the Lady Eagles, before Altman sent a serve short of the net, making the score, 2-4. Littlefield would not lie down, as Galbraith sent a tip into the net and Lee sent a kill sailing out of bounds to tie the set, 4-4.
LCHS, though, would respond, as Galbraith dropped in a tip for a kill to regain the lead, and Elizondo sent a hit into the net for Littlefield on the next play, pushing the lead to, 4-6. Bownds would answer for the Lady Cats, as she tipped the net for a kill, but they could not capitalize, as Bownds next serve fell short of the net, making the score, 5-7.
Littlefield scored back-to-back kills to tie the set, 7-7, before Hanlin sent a kill sailing out of bounds to put LCHS back in front, 7-8. Lee served up an ace on the back line, but on the next play, Rogers sent a hit into the net, turning the serve over to Littlefield with the score, 8- 9. Quinn Bruington delivered a kill off of Jimenez and Rogers followed it up with a kill off of the long dig from Jimenez making the score, 8-11 Reese Bruington sent a kill past Valdez and Dulin delivered a kill in front of Hanlin to push their lead to, 8-13, before a block by Reese Bruington landed out of bounds to trim the lead to, 9-13. Reese Bruington delivered a kill off of Valdez and Dulin followed it up with an ace off of Maggie McNeese to push their lead to, 915.
Bownds stopped the rally with a kill on the back row, but LCHS quickly answered with a kill from Rogers off of Brown to push the lead to, 10-16. Littlefield would not go away, as Bownds delivered a kill off of Altman and Golden followed it up with an ace on the back line to cut the lead to, 12-16. Golden tipped the net for an ace, but on the next play, a kill by Lee was tipped out of bounds by Golden to make the score, 13-17.
Bownds and Lee exchanged kills and Hernandez delivered a kill off of Whitlee Blacklock to make the score, 15-18, but LCHS responded, as lee delivered a kill over the block attempt by Hernandez and McNeese. A kill by Rogers was tipped out of bounds by Hanlin, but the next serve by Lee was sent out of bounds by Lee, making the score, 16-20.
LCHS would go on a, 5-3, scoring run to take set two, 19-25, and the match, 2-0.
The Lady Cats were at Wellman-Union on Friday. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season next Thursday through Saturday when they host the Littlefield Volleyball Tournament. Schedule is TBA.
