The Littlefield Wildcats’ varsity basketball team competed at a summer tournament at New Home on Friday and Saturday where they went 8-1 overall. In their second game of the day on Friday, they defeated the Roosevelt Eagles, 59-30.
The Eagles opened the first half with a put- back, but Jeremiah Trevino hit Omar Martinez with an outlet pass for a lay-up on the fastbreak to tie the game, 2-2. Ryan Williams followed it up with a layup to give Littlefield their first lead of the game, 4-2. With 12:17 to play in the first half, MJ Randle drove the lane, kicking the ball out to Chip Green, who buried a three from the right wing, pushing their lead to, 7-2.
The Eagles answered with a three from the left wing to cut the lead to, 7-5, but Sir Pratt answered with a lay-up off of an assist from Ja’Den Williams to push the lead back out to, 9-5, with 9:25 to play in the half. With just over six minutes to play in the half, the Eagles dropped in a lay-up, but Ryan Williams answered with a floater from the right elbow to make the score, 11-7.
Roosevelt knocked down a three from the left wing to make it a onepoint Littlefield lead, but on the other end, Omar was fouled on a shot attempt, earning a trip to the free-throw line. He made the shot at the line to push the lead back out to, 13-10. Littlefield converted another free throw to make the score, 15-10, but with 2:42 remaining in the half, Roosevlet dropped in a put-back to cut the lead to, 1512.
Ja’Den Williams drained a three from the left wing off of the assist from Cam McCarty, but the Eagles answered with back-to-back buckets to make it a one-point game, 18-16, with 1:12 remaining in the half. The score would stand going into halftime with Littlefield in front, 18-16.
Martinez opened the second half with a steal, getting it ahead to Ryan Williams on the fast-break for a lay-up, and the Wildcats followed it up with a three to extend their lead to, 23-16. Roosevelt took a time out with 15:07 to play in the contest and out of the break, Randle picked up a steal pushing it ahead to Martinez for a quick lay-up, making the score, 25-16.
Ryan Williams picked up a steal on the defensive end, tossing it ahead to Martinez, who then hit Randle for a lay-up on the fastbreak to stretch their lead to, 2716, with 14:04 remaining in the game.
The Eagles knocked down a three from the right wing, but Ryan Williams answered on the other end with a put-back off of his own miss, drawing an and-one foul on the play. He converted the free throw to make the score, 30-19, with 13:30 remaining in the second half.
Littlefield kept up the offensive tempo, as Ryan Williams pushed an outlet pass to Martinez, who sent the touch pass to Green, who gave it right back to Martinez for the lay-up, making the score, 3219, with 12:44 left to play in the game. The Eagles dropped in a bucket, but Martinez answered with a put-back on the other end to push the lead to, 34-21.
With 11:42 remaining, Littlefield knocked down a three and Chapman followed it up with a steal taking it down court for a fastbreak lay-up, making the score, 3923. McCarty sent an outlet pass down court to Chapman, who pump faked under the basket before dropping in a lay-up to make the score, 41-23, with just under 10 minutes to play in the game.
Ja’Den Williams knocked down a three from the right elbow off of the inbound pass from Josiah Garcia, but on the other end, the Eagles drew a shooting foul and knocked down the free throw to make the score, 44- 25. Green dropped in a put-back off of a miss by Trevino on the fast-break and Martinez followed it up with a layup on the left side to stretch their lead to, 48-25.
With under six minutes remaining in the game, Randle lobbed an alley-oop pass to Martinez for a lay-up and Trevino followed it up with a lay-up off of the assist from Ryan Williams in transition, pushing the lead to, 52-25. Roosevelt dropped in a lay-up to end the scoring drought, but Chapman answered with a drive along the left baseline for a lay-up, making the score, 54-27.
Roosevelt knocked down a three from the left elbow, but Garcia answered with a three from the left wing off of an assist from McCarty and with time winding down in the game, McCarty got loose on a break away and threw down a twohanded slam dunk as time expired, as Littlefield took the contest, 5930.
