Lady Cats win on senior night, 12-2

The Littlefield Lady Cats’ varsity softball team took down the Denver City Fillies on Senior Night on Tuesday, 12- 2, at Lady Cat Field in Littlefield.

With the win, the Lady Cats improve to, 5-2 in district play.

In the top of the first inning, Cadence Sanchez got the leadoff batter, Analee Larrea to ground out to Lyric Rios at first base for out number one. Mariela Ceniceros laid a bunt down in front of the plate, but the throw to first was high from Kaeleigh Logan giving Denver City a base runner. The Lady Cats would work out of it, as Jackie Lozano grounded out to Bryndle Ray at shortstop for out number two and Natalie Ceniceros flew out to Alex Hernandez in left field to retire the side.

The Lady Cats went threeup- and- three- down in the bottom half of the first inning and in the top of the second, Cadence Sanchez got Jasmyn Villarreal to fly out to Mykenzie Price in shallow center field for out number one. Maite Larica singled to right field, but Jocelyn Mendoza flew out to Alex Hernandez in left field for out number two.

Makaylee Villarreal singled to left- center field to put two runners on for the Fillies, and Emaleigh Farrell followed it up with an RBI-single to right field on an error by Myli Hernandez leaving runners on the corners with the Fillies in front, 1- 0. Larrea hit a soft liner to Ray at shortstop to retire the side.

Littlefield would break through in the bottom half of the second, as Natalia Sanchez flew out to Larrea in left field to lead off the inning. Taryn Golden singled up the middle to give the Lady Cats a base runner, but Alex Hernandez struck out swinging for out number two. Myli Hernandez singled to right- center field, and the ball was bobbled just long enough for Golden to score from first to tie the game, 1-1.

Rios followed it up with a two- run homerun to center field to extend their lead to, 31, before Logan drew a walk, bringing Alyssa Torres on as the courtesy runner for the catcher. Price kept the two-out rally going with a double to the left- field fence, but Cadence Sanchez flew out to right field to end the inning.

The Lady Cat defense kept the Fillies quiet in the top of the third inning, and in the bottom half of the side, Ray led things off with a walk and took second on a pitch, before Natalia Sanchez singled through the left side, taking second on the throw home from the outfield. Golden made it to first on a dropped third strike that got by the catcher and Ray and Natalia Sanchez scored on the play, as Golden took second on a bad throw to the plate from the catcher, pushing the lead to, 5- 1.

Golden took third on a throw down to second, before Alex Hernandez popped up to Jasmyn Villarreal at third base for out number one. Myli Hernandez hit a sacrifice fly ball to right- center field that was caught by the center fielder, but Golden was able to tag up and score from third, making the score, 6- 1. Rios singled to left field, but Logan popped up to Natalie Ceniceros on second base to end the inning.

The Lady Cat defense again made quick work of the Fillies in the top of the fourth, and in the bottom half of the inning, Eva Gonzalez relieved Lozano in the circle for Denver City.

Price flew out to center field for out number one, but Cadence Sanchez drew a walk and took second on a pitch, before Ray laid down a bunt that was fielded by Gonzalez in the circle, but a throwing error to first allowed Cadence Sanchez and Ray to score, stretching their lead to, 8- 1. Natalia Sanchez was hit by a pitch and Golden singled up the middle to give the Lady Cats two base runners.

The runners advanced to second and third on a past ball, before Alex Hernandez hit a sacrifice grounder to the pitcher, who got the out at first, as Natalia Sanchez scored and Golden advanced to third on the play with the score extended to, 9- 1. Golden scored on a heads- up base running play, before Gonzalez was relieved in the circle by Izabella Barrientes. She got Myli Hernandez to strike out swinging to end the inning.

Mariela Ceniceros singled on an error by Alex Hernandez in left field to lead off the top of the fifth inning and Gonzalez drew a walk to put two runners on for the Fillies. Natalie Ceniceros singled to left field to load the bases for Denver City, but Cadence Sanchez got Jasmyn Villarreal to ground into a fielder ’ s choice to Ray at shortstop, who got the out at the plate to prevent a run from scoring.

Jolette hit a sacrifice grounder to Rios at first base, who stepped on the bag for out number two, as a run scored, trimming the lead to, 10- 2, with two outs. Natalie Zerita grounded out to Rios at first base to retire the side.

In the bottom of the fifth, Rios led things off with a double to the left- center field fence and Logan drew a walk, before Price hit into a fielder’s choice to Natalie Ceniceros at shortstop, who got the lead runner at third for out number one. Cadence Sanchez drew a walk to load the bases and Ray hit a short fly over the pitcher, beating out the throw to first as two runs scored to end the game, as Littlefield run- ruled the Fillies, 12-2.

Cadence Sanchez pitched a complete game for the Lady Cats throwing five innings, giving up one walk and two runs in the contest.

The Lady Cats closed out the regular season on Saturday with a home game against the Lamesa Lady Tornadoes. Results were not available at press time.
