Wolverines take down Buffaloes, 16-1, to open district baseball

The Springlake-Earth Wolverines’ varsity baseball team won their first district game of the season on Tuesday, March 21st over Petersburg, 16-1.

With the win, the Wolverines improve to 4-2 overall on the season.

Springlake-Earth opened the game with a three-run first inning, before adding one run in each the third and fourth inning to stretch their lead to, 5-0. The Wolverines added two runs in the top of the fifth, but the Buffaloes were able to cut into the lead with one run in the bottom half of the fifth inning to make the score, 7-1.

The Wolverines, though, would push nine runs across in the top of the sixth, before blanking the Buffaloes in the bottom half of the inning to run-rule Petersburg, 161.

Xavyer Mosqueda pitched 4.1 innings for the Wolverines, earning 10 strike outs, while giving up just two walks and three hits. Braden Bradley closed out the final 1.2 innings with four strike outs, while giving up just one run and two walks.

Bradley went 3-5 at the plate with three singles, one walk and two RBI’s, while Mosqueda was 3-5 with three singles, one walk and two RBI’s.

The Wolverines totaled 12 RBI’s and 12 walks in the contest.

The Wolverines were at Crosbyton on Tuesday to take on the Chieftains. Results were not available at press time. They will continue district play on Friday with a home game against Crosbyton.

First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
