Anxious Times ...
We live in a time of local murders, war in Europe, floating spy balloons, supply chain disruptions, rising prices, political polarization, and changing social mores. Anxiety prevails.
Looking at the art in the sanctuary I remember that Jesus is over the world. On the cross the sinless Son of God died for the sins of the world. God’s love for the world is seen in Christ. The grave did not hold Him. He is risen. Even today God the Son is at the right hand of God the Father where He awaits the day of His visible return.
Today Jesus Kingdom has come and is invisible. In the great day to come the Kingdom will be visible. The Lord’s invisible reign will become visible.
In the times in which we live God rules over the world. This rule is invisible today. We are often so perplexed we wonder if God is truly at work. Yet, God laughs in derision at the Kings of the earth who oppose the Lord and His anointed (Psalm 2). The efforts of those who oppose the Lord, whether in bringing chaos or the ideologies that enslave us in our sins, will be brought to nothing. Those who struggle against God and His Word shall finally be brought to naught.
Day to day, we therefore live in hope and faith. For we know that our Maker has not abandoned His rebellious creation. He sent the eternal Son to save us from our sins. Salvation was won on the cross. Salvation will be seen to extend to the entire of the Creation in the great day that is to come.
