Nettes knock off 2A #2 Sundown in OT, 47-45

The Sudan Nettes’ varsity basketball team picked up a huge win on the road in overtime on Friday night, as they knocked off 2A #2 Sundown, 47-45.

With the win, the Nettes improve to 8-7 overall on the season.

Sudan jumped out to a small lead in the first quarter, 17-13, and outscored the Roughettes, 13-5, in the second frame to take a, 3018, lead into the locker room at halftime.

Sundown, though, would not go away, as they outscored the Nettes, 8-6, in the third quarter, and, 16-6, in the fourth quarter to tie the game, 42-42, forcing overtime.

In the extra period, Sudan outscored the Roughettes, 5-3, to take the contest, 47-45.

Stevi Lockhart led the team in scoring with 23 points, to go along with six rebounds, two steals, one assist and one block, while Gracyn Shultz tallied nine points, six rebounds, two blocks, two assists and one steal. Blessy Montes chipped in four points, two rebounds, two steals and one assist, while Braelyn Pointer contributed, four points, seven rebounds, six steals, one assist and one block.

Landree Gonzales added three points and two blocks, while Edette Herrera contributed two points, three steals and two assists, and Elaine Martinez added two points, four rebounds and one assist. Melo Rodriguez chipped in two rebounds and one steal, while Kambry Tolbert finished with six rebounds, one steal and one block.

The Nettes opened district play on Tuesday at Lockney. Results were not available at press time. They will continue their season on Friday with a district contest against Floydada in Sudan.

Tip-off is scheduled for 6:15 p.m.
